Simple question really – is it any good, does it provide an easy in to introductory level understanding of the political machinations of the WotR? |

Bit disappointing so far. I think this series is going to spin out into a loooong set of books at this rate. |

Ouch! I relished his Conqueror series on Genghis. Bogged down in the Roman series though. |

Is the Conqueror series better? I'm thinking of buying that series. |

I thought the Genghis series was very good, read each book in just a few sessions. I also enjoyed his Roman series. No knowledge of the new Medieval series, but will look out for it. Literature is very much a matter of personal taste, IMHO. You only really know if you want to read a series by having a taste of it. I also like Harry Sidebottom and Simon Scarrow. |

waaslandwarrior, Conqueror was -fantastic-! Very gritty. Very somber. I'd five start that series, and BTW, check out Legio Heroica's Mongols if you decide on Mongols for a next project! ;) |

Sunne in Splendour is outstanding for WotR |

Ok, so a dud then? Thanks Duke, I'll check that one out! |

Sunne in Splendour Yes
.. that's the one to get. |

I think the closer Iggulden gets to well-known Western history the more apparent the flaws in his work become. The Caesar books were awful compared to Colleen McCullough and got so many this wrong. With the Khan I suspect few of us know the history well enough to see the same flaws. |
