When watching Return of the Jedi again on the weekend I noticed that the Emperor twice refers to Endor as "the century moon", or some other word that sounds like "century". Does anyone know what he means by this odd comment? |

Did he mean sentry moon? It is where the shield generator was located after all. |

The ROTJ moon is sometimes called the "Sentry" or "Century Moon" by fans who misheard the Emperor's phrase, "*sanctuary* moon." [James Kahn's ROTJ noevlization] link |

I hear it as "sanctuary moon". Always have. Which considering I only got my hearing back after surgery at the age of 6 (My ENT surgeon found the issue and fixed it during a tonsils/adenoids procedure). |

Nice link Bill. "Sanctuary" moon sounds quite peaceful for the Emperor, I would never have pictured him saying that. Thanks for your responses. |

So why is it called the 'sanctuary moon', I wonder? It's an odd choice of terminology for Lucas to have made. 'Forest moon' I get. 'Sanctuary moon' sounds like something picked out of a dictionary with a pin: 'Young Skywalker, my elite forces are deployed on the [insert as desired: Table / Biography / Centipede / Railway / Cathedral / etc/ etc. Moon". A more curious question is whether Endor is a planet or a moon orbiting a planet; and if the latter, whether the planet (which we certainly don't see in RotJ) is called Endor, or whether the moon is called Endor: link |

I feel dizzy after reading your link Redcoat! I always assumed that it was the moon that was called Endor, but after thinking about it maybe the planet is called Endor and the moon is just a forest moon orbiting around Endor
.er, now I'm even more confused.
Maybe its called a sanctuary because its a sanctuary for the Ewoks? I can't ever imagine the Empire needing a sanctuary, especially at the height of its powers in ROTJ. But then it is destroyed at the apparent height of its powers. Man, I am more confused than I could ever wish to be. Sentry moon would have made far more sense. |

If it was an Ewok sanctuary, the 'elite' stormtroopers should have known about the little s before they deployed

In the modern era we worry about a "drone strike" in a Star Wars universe we worry about a "clone strike". So prediction for the Episode VII title: "Revenge of the Clone" |

In the comic series Dark Empire, Palpatine returns in a series of cloned bodies he had stashed for just such an occasion. Thanks for that, Tom Veitch. |

So according to the two wiki-type entries posted above, both the planet AND the moon are named Endor? That is some very lazy naming practices in the (I assume) Endor system. But then again, if Ewoks are the dominant life form
Maybe they call everything Endor? I assume their language is not complex. Perhaps Endor is the Ewok word for 'things which are not trees" |
