This is a little less "Conan and fantasy RPGs" than I intended it to be. It's still there, but I got sidetracked by "debunking how Conan is depicted in other media" and describing a reading project I gave myself. Over the Hill Gaming |

Yes, Conan isn't one of the Barbarian class (I never understood why they made that a class). If anything, he's a multi-class Fighter/Thief, but with the Fighter class gradually dominating. Though honestly, I'm not a big fan of the Conan works. Entertaining as a genre standard, but dated and overwritten (REH loved his purple prose
). Still, one of the great characters of fantasy. As for the films, as a visual medium, they're going to favor the iconic visual imagery created by Frazetta, et al. So in their "hero moment" scenes, that's the look they're going to feature, because it's the look that pop culture associates with Conan. Thanks for the great post! |

I thought the entire post was spot on! Finally, some people who actually get Conan. If Crom were the kind of god who bestowed blessings, I would wish for him to bless you all. May Mitra bring you supple-waisted serving wenches bearing foaming flagons of heady mead! |
