These are usually described as being a nondescript "grey-brown" color. Does anyone have a paint suggestion for this? I'll be using it on 15mm, so maybe something little lighter than what one would use for 28mm. Thanks for any help, Mark |

Definately more brown than grey, it is very coarse wool with a bit of grey in the weave. Humbrol Dark Earth is actually a pretty good match! This sort of colour: link compare and contrast with the cotton uniform behind. |

I use the Reaper Khaki Brown triad for mine. But really, anything between dark grey and dark brown will work. |

Don't be too concerned with an exact match. The greatcoat varied in shade from the aforementioned grey-brown through browninsh khaki. The book "Red Army Uniforms of World War Two in Colour Photographs" has nice side by side photos of the front and back of a Winter War Soviet rifleman. The book's author purposely used two different great coats and the variation in shade is quite noticeable. |

As Google images show, and 'rvandusen' says, you can pretty much go with anything in the "grey-brown" range and be OK. Different dye lots, different manufacturers, various levels of wear-and-tear all contributed to no exact colour. But from the majority of these pics, a more greyish "grey-brown" (sort of like dirt, oddly enough) seems to be the 'norm.' link |

I just used a gray that was already in my paint box and I was satisfied with the results. |

I quote Truscott Trotter. The Vj US Tan Earth looks good also for rolled greatcoat on khaki grey soviet uniform. |
