Those are Saxons of 1806 and don't resemble the Saxon Army of 1809 – nice figures – I like the wide cartridge pouch belts.

This is great. I am also very tempted for later saxons from Westphalia and Calpe (the new range).

I thought the primary difference between the two was the pack, i.e. in 1806 they carry a side hanging satchel like the Prussians and in 1809 they carry a backpack. Otherwise they don't change over to shako until after the 1809 campaign or maybe it was just before it?

Cheers,

The uniform used in 1806 and 1809 was essentially the same. As noted above there was a change in the manner of carrying the backpack to two shoulder straps rather than on a crossbelt. It was 1811, that there was a complete change in the uniform.

The Saxon army changed a bit, there should be upteens threads on this on TMP – including 1000ands of photos of the 1809 Saxon army ;-))).

1806 – hip pack – 1809 back pack
1806 – waitsbelt with sword – 1809 shoulder belt, so cross belts
1806 open lapels – 1809 hooked down as much as possible to create the immage of a straight lapel (but couldn't be fully closed to the waist.
1809 field trousers
1806 field trousers and Kittel (kind of frock coat) worn over the uniform.
