The usual TMP layout with 3 days worth of topics isn't coming up when I click on TMP, only a "Message Board" title in blue. Weirdness. What's up with that? Anybody else experience this type of thing? |
Dynaman8789 | 24 May 2014 6:01 p.m. PST |
The new overstifle might be causing you problems. I still see the normal layout. |
Skeptic | 24 May 2014 6:02 p.m. PST |
I briefly saw a similar page, within the past hour or so. |
McWong73 | 24 May 2014 6:05 p.m. PST |
is the new stifle actually active? |
PzGeneral | 24 May 2014 6:21 p.m. PST |
Every thing works fine for me
. |
Skeptic | 24 May 2014 6:21 p.m. PST |
It has recurred. I saw a couple of other headings, but no thread titles. I wonder whether the new "ignore" functionality might have defaulted to "ignore everybody"
? I re-checked just now, and the only visible titles were from the "Hobby News", "Polls", and "Workbench" sections. I suspect that the "Editor" may have screwed up
|
Gonsalvo | 24 May 2014 6:28 p.m. PST |
I likewise now see NO topics on the home page, despite having no one stifled, and having my configuration set to display 400 topics on the homepage. I think we've been collectively stifled. Archie Bunker would be proud

MAD MIKE | 24 May 2014 6:34 p.m. PST |
Same problem here. Home page has no new topics and TMP very slow to load. |
saltflats1929 | 24 May 2014 6:39 p.m. PST |
No marketplace and no topics for me. Never used stifle. Took me 3 minutes just to find this thread. |
MAD MIKE | 24 May 2014 6:40 p.m. PST |
I went to my page and stifled a random member (then unstifled them) and now everything is fine |
Shaun Travers | 24 May 2014 6:58 p.m. PST |
Same problem – no topics. Never stifled either – tried the stifle, unstifle but did not work (I may not have waited long enough between stifle, unstifle. I only waited about 2 minutes). |
Editor in Chief Bill | 24 May 2014 7:02 p.m. PST |
Mad Mike, do you mean Stifle, or Ignore? |
Space Monkey | 24 May 2014 7:23 p.m. PST |
What's screwed up for me are the sidebars
no topics are listed at all. There's a link to Plus Boards, Exchange and Marketplace are links
no topics under them. And yeah, going to the main page seems a lot slower. |
Ivan DBA | 24 May 2014 7:24 p.m. PST |
I too could see NO topics ( nor any Marketplace or Exchange posts). I "Ignored" another member, went back to the home page, and now everything is back (except for the ignored member's posts). |
Anthon | 24 May 2014 7:24 p.m. PST |
I was having trouble too, so as a test, I put someone on ignore, then everything worked normally. So I took them off, and boards would not load again. Put them on ignore again, everything worked fine
|
T Callahan | 24 May 2014 7:29 p.m. PST |
Nothing in the side bars, no threads under any of the headings, News, Lounge, Messages. I do not want to go thru each board looking for new posts. Terry |
Space Monkey | 24 May 2014 7:31 p.m. PST |
Oh, yep
putting someone on Ignore! brought back my sidebar. Main page still seems slow though. |
Arteis | 24 May 2014 7:36 p.m. PST |
This problem doesn't seem to affect everyone. For example, everything (including the 'Ignore' button) is working fine for me. So there must be a common denominator between the people who are experiencing the problem. I'm not at all technical, so take the following idea with a grain of salt. But could it perhaps occur if you've previously contributed to a topic started by a person you've now chosen to Ignore? Could that confuse the system? |
Skeptic | 24 May 2014 7:40 p.m. PST |
I have no intention of ignoring anybody, not even Tango01, and not even if that's what it takes to see thread titles. So, I think that I'll head over to LAF, WD3, or even Frothers for now, where there's more talk about gaming, less animosity, and the noise is relatively well-compartmentalized. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 24 May 2014 7:42 p.m. PST |
I'll debug on Monday, keep the bug reports coming in! But could it perhaps occur if you've previously contributed to a topic started by a person you've now chosen to Ignore? Could that confuse the system? Unlikely Might be a difference between those who have all interests turned on, and those who don't. |
PaulCollins | 24 May 2014 7:43 p.m. PST |
I don't think so Arteis. I've never ignored or stifled anyone and I have no messages visible and my sidebars are gone (except polls, which it don't usually have on the home page). |
Intrepide | 24 May 2014 7:46 p.m. PST |
It is working properly for me now. I had to break some eggs for that omelet, but eggs are cheap, da? |
Space Monkey | 24 May 2014 7:49 p.m. PST |
I went and added in 18th century, the only interest I had turned off
and unignored the fellow I'd randomly ignored. Sidebars are still there. So that having interests turned off might have been part of the issue. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 24 May 2014 7:54 p.m. PST |
Might be a difference between those who have all interests turned on, and those who don't. Ah, probably not. I correlated problems vs. interests, and can't find a pattern. |
Arteis | 24 May 2014 7:54 p.m. PST |
I have always had quite a few interests turned off, but as mentioned above, I haven't had any issues with the new Ignore. I've Ignored one person today as an experiment, and it went smoothly right from the word go. |
Garand | 24 May 2014 7:54 p.m. PST |
I tried stifling someone, checked the page, not working. I unstifled that person, checked the page, not working. I ignored a person, checked the page, works now. I unignored that person, checked the page, not working. Damon. |
MAD MIKE | 24 May 2014 7:58 p.m. PST |
|
Lascaris | 24 May 2014 8:05 p.m. PST |
Also cannot see the Lounge or Messages on the home page. |
Lascaris | 24 May 2014 8:07 p.m. PST |
Ah so I ignored our latest member with the juvenile name and now I can see everything on the home page again. :) |
Jakse375 | 24 May 2014 8:13 p.m. PST |
I experienced the same problem. Did the same as Lascaris and now it's back to normal. Running Firefox as browser. |
Arteis | 24 May 2014 8:17 p.m. PST |
Good that that person appeared just when he did, Lascaris – he's the perfect fall guy! |
MAD MIKE | 24 May 2014 8:18 p.m. PST |
Our newest member has thoughtfully provided a target for the ignore button so that we can enjoy the homepage again. |
RInhoff | 24 May 2014 8:23 p.m. PST |
I have no front page I checked homepage settings and they are the same as before I tried both Firefox and Safari no luck |
Arteis | 24 May 2014 8:27 p.m. PST |
Have you tried Ignoring someone, Rinhoff? That seems to be the best work-round solution at the moment until the problem is sorted properly. And here's someone perfect who popped in just as we needed a fall-guy for Ignoring: TMP link |
John the OFM | 24 May 2014 8:36 p.m. PST |
I have all interests turned ON and I see everything that I should. |
Ceterman | 24 May 2014 8:36 p.m. PST |
Mine looks just like T Callahan explained. Most everything is gone. Peter |
John the OFM | 24 May 2014 8:37 p.m. PST |
So he DOES have a useful purpose after all. |
Sundance | 24 May 2014 8:46 p.m. PST |
I had it for a few hours today. The Editor has been hard at work. It's all back to normal for me at least. |
Ancestral Hamster | 24 May 2014 8:50 p.m. PST |
Had the same problem, but used the work-around mentioned above. Can now see the most recent topics again. Incidentally, for bug hunting purposes, my browser is Firefox. |
Tommy20 | 24 May 2014 8:57 p.m. PST |
Similar problem here: - In Firefox and Safari - Homepage custom configured - Many boards normally unchecked - No topics showing up in sidebar (Marketplace & Exchange) - No topics showing up in main page (TMP Plus, Lounge & Messsage Boards) - Nobody Stifled - Nobody Ignored Will try stifling and/or ignoring someone on & off to see if it helps. Edit: OK, stifling did nothing. Ignoring someone fixed the problem, but as soon as I unignored them, it came back. |
RInhoff | 24 May 2014 8:58 p.m. PST |
Ok I tried an ignore on a random name messages appeared great thinks I i go unignore said random name no messages on my front page again so I go ignore another random name messages appear |
LongshotGC | 24 May 2014 9:04 p.m. PST |
Thanks, "Phuk", for giving me a go-to for my Ignore! work around. Bill, many thanks for working to implement some important features that might have a chance at making everyone happier. |
DesertScrb | 24 May 2014 9:18 p.m. PST |
I was having the same problem, so I ignored Phuk, and all the posts came back. However, I can still see Phuk's posts. Does ignore only hide a thread the individual started? Do I still have to stifle that individual as well? EDIT: Yep, the ignore is separate from the stifle. If you don't want to see someone's posts in someone else's threads, you need to stifle them as well. |
Stosstruppen | 24 May 2014 9:27 p.m. PST |
I ignored the suggested poster and that did fix the problem my home page is back but loading slowly. However i do still see the poster that was ignored
. |
Paint Pig | 24 May 2014 9:32 p.m. PST |
Does ignore only hide a thread the individual started? Do I still have to stifle that individual as well? Surprisingly (to me at least) yes, forget aquarious this is siècle des lumières. Using Safari and no problems here front page looks as it always did
ignored 2 of my sock puppets (they were always talking about me) and front page looks the same. So it appears that I will have to stifle the puppets as well, is this some sort of digital double handling (pass the kleenex), so much for the computer age being a time saver. regards dave |
Deadmen tell lies | 24 May 2014 10:02 p.m. PST |
Nothing worked here either until I hit the ignore button and voila everything is working now. Turn it off again and nothing. Something isn't right. Regards James |
Bashytubits | 24 May 2014 10:42 p.m. PST |
My entire page is different since the overstifle was implemented. It is showing no comments whatsoever and I see no way to stifle, overstifle or undo this on my member page. Wasn't this where the dreaded stifle was implemented? I have to go on message boards and track down comments now. I have re-configured my home page several different ways and peoples comments simply do not show up unless I go into the message boards and look at individual topics. |
Robert Kennedy | 24 May 2014 10:44 p.m. PST |
Mine hasn't been affected at all. |
goragrad | 24 May 2014 10:48 p.m. PST |
Well, one more Firefoxer who had to ignore the foul fellow to see TMP. |
