Very pleased to preview our Cold War Soviet Motor Rifles in 15mm scale. These are in the 1970 uniform reforms, but they are 15mm so could probably be used for earlier periods in a pinch.

First we have four poses of "vanilla" riflemen, including the squad "medic" with the medical bag:

Next we have the squad support weapons and assistants to the grenadiers--all are unique poses. Three men with RPK, three with RPG-7, and three assistants with AKs and spare rockets in a pack on their back:

Finally we have the platoon set, which has the platoon marksman with Dragunov sniper rifle, assistant platoon leader with AK, platoon leader with pistol, and two teams allocated from the company's MG platoon with the PKM:

The first pack has three of each pose, the other packs have one of each pose. So if you get one of each pack, that's exactly one platoon of Motor Rifles.

These were made to complement our popular Yom Kippur War range. In 1973, the West came rather close to blows with the Warsaw Pact -- if these are popular we'll make British, Germans, and others. However, next up would be Americans, both for NATO forces in Europe and for Southeast Asia.

These Motor Rifles will be available soon and the BMP-1 will be released with them. The BTR-60 is being put into a mould now. Painted by Steve Dean, sculpted by Mike Broadbent.

Beautiful stuff. I just wish the word "soon" didn't disappoint so often.

Look forward to seeing them up close.

its funny how retro these guys looked in the 70s, like it was still wwii…..

Starts frothing at the mouth!

Yes, think they won't be all that different from Vietnam-deployed troops, except they'll have their sleeves buttoned and won't be wearing their packs, as they'd be left in the M113s I reckon.

Open to input on that though from guys who served in Germeny in the early 70s….

Well as a scout in the late '70s it was just weapon, steel pot and LBE. Packs only if it was an extended Dismount (over night OP/LP).

Out-friggin-standing !!!! There goes my social security check .LOL

Dennis030222 May 2014 12:33 p.m. PST

Main difference Vietnam loaded down like a mule, Europe packs on the track.

Don't forget the US Marine Corps please, they would be wearing flak jackets. And would these Soviets be good for the early 80s as well.

I think the Continental uniform was a bit more different than the Vietnam uniform, big differences (at this scale) would be no cargo pockets on the trousers, and shirts tucked in. Wasn't in the military in the '70s (wasn't conceived until a bit later). I'll have to check my references when I get home, but that's off the top of my head.

Vietnam tropical uniforms might show up in the summer. I recall when the woodland pattern came out, a hot weather uniform was not immediately available, so the old Vietnam jungle uniform was worn for a bit.

Lovely looking sculpts and painting!

NATO troops? Wow – Brits with SLRs? – that would be Fantastic!

The USMC would have been deployed anywhere in the Med in the 70's if the Cold War went hot and quite likely into Norway, Denmark and even the Balkans.

A USMC Rifle Company would have looked like this:

Thirteen man squad with three four man fireteams, with a FT leader, (M-16) grenadier with M-203 and two riflemen with m-16's.

Platoon would be three squads, with Plt. Hqts. made up of Platoon Leader, Plt. Sgt., Right Guide (a Sgt. who was in charge of platoon logistics and assisted the Platoon Sgt.), a radio operator and a Navy Corpsman.

Company would be three rifle platoons and a weapons platoon.
Weapons platoon would have six M-60 machine guns, three 60mm mortars and either the 3.5 rocket launcher or the worst weapon every made the M-202 multi shot flame weapon.

Co. Hqts would be Company Commander, XO, 1st. Sgt. Company Gunny, two or three radio operators, couple of Navy Corpsmen and logistical and admin types.

Flack jackets for sure and ERDL camouflage utilities after the summer of 1976.Also two canteens per Marine with a "jungle" first aid kit worn between the two canteens. Also packs would be worn as the number of amtracks and trucks available for transportation would be small. The USMC was and is very much a light infantry organization.

The M-202 could be iffy. I'm pretty sure they were issued as a replacement for the 3.5 after the middle of 1973.

Is there a T64 tank to go with these guys in the pipeline?

Irish Marine22 May 2014 3:28 p.m. PST

Dennis0302 don't forget the LAAW, plus they still had if I'm correct the 106mm on the jeep for anti-tank warfare.

Cosmic Reset22 May 2014 6:24 p.m. PST

Those are fantastic! I look forward to getting some of them. Hope that in time you might consider East Germans.

Mooseworks822 May 2014 9:55 p.m. PST

Very nice.

Ooh, nice.

Lion in the Stars23 May 2014 1:19 p.m. PST

I think I found the opposition for my "Coldest War" Swedes!

Hayden24 May 2014 2:37 a.m. PST

simply wow then i need to build up that cold war forces in 15mm though i would prefer 80ties for US (mainly thanks for books like Red Army or Team Yankee) but i would definatly build up some forces

and Soviets looks excelent i would use them for CSLA stand ins and of course British for my friend as he would definatly play BAOR

Oiler7224 May 2014 1:53 p.m. PST

Those look great!! NATO troops would be great, your figs and vehicles would be great for that era. Brits with SLRs aren't too different from Canucks with FNs.

Weasel05 Jun 2014 11:11 a.m. PST

Oh these are excellent. I've been slowly working on some motor rifles but the random miniatures I got are nowhere near as lovely as these.
