"Austal Limited is pleased to announce it has delivered the second of eight Cape Class Patrol Boats being supplied to the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service under a $330 USD million design, build and in-service support contract. Cape Byron was delivered four weeks ahead of its original delivery date. Cape Byron was delivered four weeks ahead of its original delivery date. Yep nice kit! Nice broad beam but looks to be fast. Seems to have both milsat and Inmarsat fits, which is good, and the U/VHF 'tennas look well situated back there on the mizzen, but only the one HF whip by the looks, not so good
and no mobile phone jammers, which is what you really need against those human trafficker scum as you hove into view and they dial up the ABC! Lol! Boat deck a bit on the small side maybe

Looks too much like a yacht to me--I like paramilitary and military vessels to look more utilitarian, but then that might be a good thing for the role this class is intended to fulfill. Rob |

We live in hope that the RAN now replaces their patrol boat class with real (if small) warships (the 2009 DWP promised 2000 tonne warships). Have a great day, Frank |
