How do most of you mount your miniature artillery (or anti tank guns). Or do some games have a set way of mounting, like Flames of War (I know they are mostly 15mm but I have 20mm). Usually I leave the artillery piece standing alone but have been thinking of a mounting it together with the crew on a 40mm or bigger stand.

I'm using 1/72 plastics for F0W, so comparable to 20mm.

I just adjusted the FoW base sizes by 4/3.

So yes, I base artillery that way too.

I just stick them on a base large enough to take gun and crew. For some pieces I leave the barrel sticking over the end of the base.

Yep I think it looks better if you base…Easier and quicker to lay out a couple of feet of Russian guns…

when possible i tend to fix only the crew on the base …so the gun could used for other nationalities/theaters/periods..
just an example..I painted in a neutral dull colour the Skoda 75mm Mountain Gun so that it could be served, according to my needs, by various crew mounted on different bases: WW1 Austrian Mountain Artillery, WW2 Italian Alpini, WW2 Italian Colonial Troops/Lybian/Eritrean Askaris and Germans WW2..and the possibilities are endless: French canon de 75mm for French/Polish/Italians; 6 Pdr guns/57mm US M1 for British or US crews..Krupp Guns for various crews WW1/SCW/WW2 ecc…

I base the guns on rather large stands and base the crew individually. I do mostly skirmish style games so guns of this caliber are objectives and not really usable on board.

I base gun plus 2 to 4 crew on one base.
Extra crew are added as single figures; there's usually 5-8 crew for most guns. The number on the base is usually the minimum needed to crew the gun, so you can take the gun off when they take further casualties.
This also makes it simpler for games where everything is by base (e.g. Battlefront WW2).

I play skirmish games with individual casualties so I base the gun, but the crew are not permanently mounted on the base.

I'm getting to the point of basing the gun with the minimum crew and adding the 'additional' crew either team-based or singly based.

For example, Battlegroup rules specify "A 6-pdr gun with 3 crew," "3 men with 3" mortar," "3 men with a Vickers HMG," "25pdr Field Gun with 4 crew," or "105mmL22 Howitzer with 4 crew" and then give you an option of a 3-man loader team.

I base the gun not the crew. The base helps the spindly little trails hold up to the ham fisted wargames who have to touch them.
