This was an Operational and tactical game with 2 map based commanders sending messages via the umpire to their respective players who pushed the model armies at the sharp end.

So, 2 Umpires, 2 HQ players and 6 tactical players. Map moves translated directly to squares on the table.

The tactical rules were Op 14 by Richard Brooks (published in WD's the Nugget) played on 2km squares

An interesting and enjoyable map and tabletop operational game …

Looks like a challenging game.

Very interesting report thanks much for showing this. I've wanted to do the Warsaw campaign but at a more tactical level with lots of figures. Please tell us a bit about what figures you used, the orders of battle and what do figures represent.

I have a mostly Peter Pig figure RussoPolish War collection, it is a fascinating war and the battles can be very close run things.

Thanks for the report, very interesting.

Hi Bobgnar …

As it says in the blog (though not in any great detail) the squares are 2kms and the troop scale was 4 figures per field strength brigade, the guns batteries or higher units of, say, 12 to 16 guns. As Polish 1st Army I had about 5 and a half Divisions plus several batteries.

I don't have the orders of battle, though doubtless Ian will publish these in a forthcoming issue of the Nugget.

As I mention in the P.B.Eye-Candy report, the figures were mostly from Peter Pig's Square Bashing range, supplemented by anything Ian could get hold of to represent equipment, especially at higher levels, that isn't easily available.

The system is relatively abstract, likewise the terrain, as the intention is that full-sized battles can be played in an afternoon.

Phil
