I am going to make a selection of more conventional shanties for the 'Stoners'.
They are the people that harvest the Deema seeds.

Here are the first 2 WIPs:

Those are looking great! Remind me of the show Falling Skies (which is a good thing)

I really like the curved one. Not entirely sure about the other to be honest; a 2-storey shanty seems a little, umm, hazardous. ;-) The nissen hut inspired one really looks the business though. :-)

fleabeard20 May 2014 12:29 p.m. PST

Don't underestimate the power of corrugated iron, Dom

Good riposte. :-) I *love* that second link – fantastic notion.

Tango India Mike20 May 2014 2:17 p.m. PST

Yes. Very nice.

Mooseworks820 May 2014 2:51 p.m. PST

Nice!

tberry740320 May 2014 6:12 p.m. PST

Whut, no skullz? grin

tberry740320 May 2014 6:13 p.m. PST

Like'm both!

Gaz004520 May 2014 11:24 p.m. PST

Not enough arches and buttresses……..!

The Nissen hut piece is very nice…….I imagine that the 'luxury shack' (two storey with a/c) will paint up nicely too………it looks a bit 'intact'……..

Angel Barracks21 May 2014 3:24 a.m. PST

I have done some more work on the first two, and started this new one:

Those look really nice

Gaz004521 May 2014 6:10 a.m. PST

But my PA shack would have a pointy-arched garage door at the least…….and some skulls for decoration…….maybe a clock tower too…….

On the up side- lots of variety and interesting shapes! Keep up the good work!

Allen5721 May 2014 9:47 a.m. PST

One question. Why do so many SF buildings have to have domes on them?

Al

P.S. I don't like domes. They are hard to take off and easy to add if you want them.

Stealth100021 May 2014 10:07 a.m. PST

They look really nice. I love the one with the staples. I was looking at them as scenery build items just the other day.

Angel Barracks21 May 2014 10:10 a.m. PST

They don't have too. In fact I think this is only my second with domes.
I figured that a glass dome would be better than a flat conventional skylight…

They are of course only easy to add if you have some to hand.
If people left them off and had a flat area no doubt people would say why so much flat surface?

No more for this range then, I promise!

Angel Barracks21 May 2014 10:44 a.m. PST

Oh and domes are casting and moulding friendly.

Markconz21 May 2014 5:07 p.m. PST

Nice work!

Angel Barracks22 May 2014 1:56 a.m. PST

4th building.

Here we can see a funny door, patterned or force field/holo door, you decide.

Also I have added to this and a previous building, the MKII Soper Power Generator, not as quiet or as fancy as the newer models, but solid and reliable and a good bit of kit.

Now that I like. :-) The roof almost looks like it could be a carved off section of a transport ship or something. Must admit the door looks a bit "fancy" for a scrap-built dwelling, but that's a minor point, and easy to put a new one over the top if needed. The clunky generator definitely looks the part.

Covert Walrus22 May 2014 4:35 a.m. PST

Looking rather good- nice, livable constructions that aren't overly upmarket nevertheless very Post-modern.

Angel Barracks22 May 2014 5:49 a.m. PST

Three more done.
That will do for now I think.

Just need to fill the gaps and add the detail.
Should be ready for sale in about 20 days or so.

Compact and bijou……

Excellent work AB!
Shopping list amended…..(again)……

Allen5722 May 2014 6:29 a.m. PST

Nice buildings. Give you some variety to add to the Junkers and OKI.

I will buy them. Even the one with domes :>).

Gaz004522 May 2014 9:17 a.m. PST

Another slum ripe for 'vigorous law enforcement'……..Stoner/Junker trash……the RDF are coming!

Angel Barracks22 May 2014 11:14 a.m. PST

Thank god for the good folk of Mariposa eh?

greg95424 May 2014 1:22 p.m. PST

I'm liking these. At first I wasn't sure but they are growing on me.

Sort of reminds me of up market posh Junkers.

Looking forward to seeing them painted.

Covert Walrus24 May 2014 6:30 p.m. PST

Indeed Corrugated iron is a most useful and artistic medium – This was once parked at my house while in a movie –

Angel Barracks27 May 2014 12:21 p.m. PST

Added a roof garden to one of the SD's.

stroezie27 May 2014 12:57 p.m. PST

Now that is really cool.
These buildings are looking better and better every time I see them. Looking foreward to their release.

Angel Barracks27 May 2014 1:17 p.m. PST

Thanks.

Now being a badlands resident means the man isn't breathing down your neck, so why not get your favourite tatty armchair, complete with butt groove, stick it on your roof and drink some booze?

War Monkey28 May 2014 3:56 a.m. PST

Wow those are looking really great!

AB
Did you cast your own siding and then just cut them down to your needs?

Gunner Dunbar28 May 2014 5:29 a.m. PST

These are great, what is the brown corrugated plastic you are using?

Gaz004528 May 2014 5:40 a.m. PST

'Armchair with butt crease'…..best spot in the village!
No old fashioned 3d viewer or fridge tho'……………

"No old fashioned 3d viewer or fridge tho'……………"

I'll bet the table is the fridge….

Gaz004529 May 2014 10:57 a.m. PST

Or ( the horror!) a 3d virtual beverage dispenser……..?

War Monkey30 May 2014 3:15 p.m. PST

AB
Would you know the Brand of the plasticard, wondering if one could get it online?

Angel Barracks30 May 2014 3:28 p.m. PST

Not sure.
Let me have a trawl of the internet for you.
Will advise….

Angel Barracks31 May 2014 1:59 a.m. PST

I am fairly sure it is Slaters 0432 plasticard:

I am not 100% sure but it does look very similiar.

War Monkey31 May 2014 2:33 p.m. PST

Thanks that sure looks like it could be the stuff

Angel Barracks31 May 2014 3:47 p.m. PST

Checked with the shop I bought it from and they only stock that brand.
I would say 95-99% probable.

That is Awesome! Now you need a line of "space heaps" in various states of disrepair – up on blocks with tires missing, quarter panels gone or dented, busted out windows, etc. and some "space goats" to go out in front of the shanties.

Personal logo Doms Decals Sponsoring Member of TMP01 Jun 2014 7:23 a.m. PST

For some reason this now has me imagining how a fight in this shantytown would most likely kick off. "You're in my spot"….

Angel Barracks05 Jun 2014 4:30 a.m. PST

Sorry chaps, there is a delay on these.

The moulds I did are frankly, god awful.
My fault.

I have had to make some new moulds which has set me back a while as I had to wait for the silicone to arrive, these use up a fair bit as there are 7 buildings and I was running low.
However, the new moulds are done and I have just de-moulded the models and these are OK!

The originals were mad-ass full of air bubbles, no way I was putting my name to anything that came out of them.
I know some people out there would buy them as other folks sell such models, but not me.
Even though they are shanties they still need to look nice.

Anyway, new moulds are good and I will start casting when they are ready.

Schadavi06 Jun 2014 6:23 a.m. PST

Could we get a photo of the bad moulds?

I always like learning from other peoples mistakes, more than from my own ;)

Angel Barracks06 Jun 2014 6:47 a.m. PST

Bad
(I have circled just some of the bubbles)

All the other moulds are pretty much the same.
Serves me right for trying to rush.
