I've always thought the 'oh, GoT is just WoTR' crowd obviously haven't read the books. ;)

WoTR definitely has a major *influence* on the books, don't get me wrong. But it's not just the same story with wolves and lions instead of white roses and red roses.

Cersei = Anne Boleyn, if only for the accusations.

Tywin seems more Warwick, Baratheons are left over Plantagenet or the left overs from Maud and King Stephen?, Buckingham? Stanley? Percy? Beauforts?

I may have overlooked this part in my reading, but was it the Yorks or Lancasters that had dragons?

Lupulus13 May 2014 11:44 p.m. PST

…dragons?

Touché!

Martin Rapier14 May 2014 3:08 a.m. PST

That would be the French. Scary bunch.

Don't forget the Greek involvement in War of The Roses. Clearly represented by Dorn. =)

Darthfozzywig – neither, which is why they don't in GoT.

WotR was an influence, just one of many. Nothing more to it than that.

im with the "influence only" supporters, however that doesn't stop me trying to draw parallels(besides its fun).

Ive always had Ned Stark down as Hastings, , loyal to his king, immediately beheaded on the ascension of the next king

Cersei is more Margaret of Anjou than Boleyn in my mind, desperate to cling on to power and secure the succession for her heirs.

Stark vs Lannister, (despite the obvious allusion in the name), which was a inter family feud that sparked a civil war reminds me of the Neville/Percy feud.

and throwing a few out there:

Littlefinger – Lord Rivers, minor noble who marries the widow of a great lord, readily swops sides

Stannis – Richard III, rightful king if his older brothers children were indeed illegitimate
