This year, "The Weekend" a small convention in LancasterPA., at the Continental Inn, right across from the Lancaster Host is putting on an event for the wives and girl friends of attention attendees. One of our group, a re-enactor, and whose husband and daughter are also re-enactor (she does all the sewing for the uniforms and costumes herself and is a master at it) is organizing a "Wives Safari" for lunch and shopping through the Amisheria and farmers markets of the area. It's a great time for the wives to get together, shop, lunch, and talk about their goofy husbands. She also games in family games and so will help with things to do when they are back at the hotel. The convention Is the 20th, 21st, and 22nd of June. |

Why wouldn't the wives just get in on the wargaming? Are women not allowed or something? |

The post title has a dodgy ring to it

Well Pictor's studio, for most of them that's the LAST thing they want to do. Even those who do, when I told them about this had a glint to their eye I'd not seen since my dog espied a bone a long way off!. Women are always allowed, few of them choose to participate. |

Cerdic, the thought of wives getting together and organizing frankly terrified me. |

This went very well. We had six wives of Wargames who came along and went out together for shopping lunch, etc. They all made friends. Later they came back to the convention and watched some of the play. They played some commercial games like Apples to Apples, one of their daughters introduced them to Settlers of Caitan. But this was right next to a big wargame. I could see their eyes furtively flitting over to the table and they had a gleam in them. Softly, Softly Catchee Monkee
. By the end of the convention two of them were playing Settlers of Caitan. More important they wanted to take over the kick-off dinner on Thursday night and make it better. |
