Using the Turco heads from F&G MiniZ, I converted a bunch of my Perry ACW plastic zouaves into a unit of Tirailleurs Algériennes for my Franco-Prussian War collection.

The flag is a print from Warflag to which I added a few brush strokes of highlighting effect.

Those are extra cool. Are their bag packs scratch built?

They are very well painted
but

tirailleurs algériens. algériennes means females, in which case it is a bit premature.

they are too dark faced, these are more " senegalese". than North Africans. there woould be no "blacks2 then, these being slaves for them.

the "flag" is way too big. This should be a fanion. If with a flag it would be a tricolor with battle honours, about a meter high. I.e. way smaller anyway than this one.

Very cool. Some of those Algerians look very happy being on the advance!

Its's Tirailleurs Algériens, Algériennes would make them female…

Thanks for the kind words everyone, and for the correction of any bad spelling or historical incorrectness.

The back packs are indeed scratch made by adding some tin ware in green stuff and some cut metal wire to a back pack from Secret Weapons Miniatures.

Black Hat miniatures also offers an interesting French back pack set for their Foreign Legion range.

Taking your suggestions to heart, I'll probably return with an additional unit of tirailleurs soon!

No problem to see African skin guys among them: there are sources and accounts talking of black skin turcos during 1870.

Thanks for the added knowledge Forgotten Glorious, appreciate it. I myself was inspired by the painting of "Landau Gate" by Carl Rochling from the battle of Wissembourg. That and the actual black/white photos I found of the Tirailleurs show mixed ethnicity. Anyways, I've ordered a set of the Black Hat Miniatures back packs, and will try out these on a second unit, which will be with tricolor, pennant instead of bugler and with mixed Arab and Black soldiers.
