found on the web this beautiful painting please
to which regiment could belong this sowar being rescued by a British infantryman ? i particularly like the black-red turban (maybe because they are the colour of my favourite football team ?) and i would like to paint a similar TSTATF Cavalry unit for NWF.
thanks |

There isn't much information on Indian turban styles but that turban could be the 3rd Bombay Cavalry. |

The best reference for Indian cavalry is 'Indian Cavalry Regiments 1880-1914' by AH Bowling. there are three copies on eBay at the moment However some pages have been posted around the web if you look at fig 13 I think you will find what you are looking for.
I believe the Indian Sowar to be of the 1st Duke of York's Own Lancers (Skinners Horse) |
