I was wondering if the National Guard regiments that were attached to the Imperial Guard wore the same uniforms as regular National Guard regiments?

BTW, any good online source for National Guard regiments in 1814?

Not aware of any overall source, but from what I've read regarding Pacthod's ill-fated column at Fère-Champenoise, the different contingents wore anything from a military greatcoat and shako or pokalem, to civilian coats and top hats, or peasant smocks with broad-brimmed straw hats and wooden clogs.

At some point the blue smock, elevated to "Gallic dress" for the occasion, was prescribed as standard for the rural cohorts at least.

The pikemen among the Paris NG would seem to have been the exception: Those contingents sent to join the army would have drawn muskets, including brand new ones, and cartridge boxes from military depots.

If anybody has information, especially on Pacthod's battalions, please share it!

Hello, Green Beanie: Back between 1962 and 1969, I worked for a huge retailer in store management, and took one day off a month – always a Thursday. I spent is researching Knoetel and Lienhart & Humbert at the public library in Philadelphia, PA. I have since been told that L&H can be rather unreliable in some cases.

I recall this plate – now on the internet – for a single National Guard of the Imperial Guard regiment. This unit would have worn the long-tailed line infantry uniform, and the only Guard distinction appears to be pointed red cuffs, edged white. I seem to recall other sources suggesting a grenadier company, four fusiliers, and 1 voltigeur, and two battalions. They eventually became a tirailleur or voltigeur regiment.

The shako seems to be for the grenadier company.

I do not have any information about National Guard regiments attached to the Imperial Guard late in the war.

Hello, Musketier:

A great link! Always looking for new sources, new units.

For those who work in Victrix 28mm plastics, the French officer in the line infantry box, walking, in surtout and blanket roll, could be converted with east to the national guardsman with the bicorn, all brown uniform.

I always have officers and drummers left over in the Victrix sets, so a new idea!
