The pictures are useful. The poster's analysis? Not so much.

HaT figures hold paint well. The customization thing is usually not a problem with HaT because you get 8 poses on a spru. With GB, you have to build all those figures.

Michigan Toy soldier has GB figures for $35.99 USD for 40 figures. Cost per figure is about 90 cents. HaT $14.99 USD for 32 figures. Cost per figure is about 47 cents. Almost half price.

So two reasons to buy HaT over GB. Both are fine figures and I'd probably use them together on the same tabletop. But if you are on a limited budget or just want to get your figures on the table quickly, go with HaT.

EDIT I should point out that others will take the opposite approach. Like James Wright below! grin

Horses for courses.

See, I am the opposite. For me it is not "I have to build all those figures," it is I *get* to build all those figures. They will look different, are easier to convert, something else I love.

Also, I have to say, I find the detail on the HaT figures really lacking.

Are the Hat figures in scale with the GB ones, and metal 28s?

They are 28mm figures so probably yes.

HaT 28mm figures are usually slimmer and a touch shorter than other manufacturers. Some feel the difference is too great, others don't.

Where is the comparison of figures? A true comparison would have shown a sample of each manufacturer side by side so you can get an idea of scale.

Picture of some Napoleonic figures comparisons. HaT is slightly smaller than Victrix or Perry.

Also bottom of the page, Naps and how they compare to WGF Vikings.

Unfortunately no El Cid comparisons directly. Just some Napoleonic figures from HaT.

proportions of the HaT infantry are excellent.

The Gripping Beast figures are FANTASTIC, I just used some WGF weapons to make 40 more armed Modern Arabs

I'm with "Who asked this joker" on this one – I'd rather not assemble the figures, and the HaT being so much cheaper is also a bonus.

(To be really honest though, I'd use 20mm figures : hat.com/Othr8/Moccia15P.html )
