Hi all, Me and my regular oppo use Modern Spearhead for all our post 1945 games, however it is becoming a little dated and to make things worse I don't actually own a copy and can't seem to get hold of one. SO, is there a newer set of rules to play coldwar/modern division sized games, thanks in advance for any info. All the best CH.

Cold War Commander is a solid set of rules that many enjoy, especially for that period.

I second Cold War Commander….and much easier to learn and play.

I quite like Tank Wreck (rolling for your opponent's morale test was great fun, especially with my dice throwing), though it clearly didn't replace Modern Spearhead.

Another vote for Cold War commander and its emphasis on command control and doctrine. I like Blitzkrieg Commander for that same reason.

Fistful of TOWS 3.

Cold War Commander for me and the club.

Modern Spearhead is now sold by On Military Matters, unless they ran out of stock.

My vote is for Fistful of Tows. You can try out the demo version from the fft3 website.

Another vote for Tankwreck.

Cold War Commander is the best I've played.

Cold War Commander is always a fun game – plays at a lower operational level than MSH, though. CWC – battalion to brigade, MSH – brigade to division.

FFT3 is also a good game, but more chart heavy than CWC.

I play CWC more than FFT3

Only complaint I have about CWC is that you can roll loads of dice, and not quite get the KO, so have to do it all again next round.

I do feel that an update to MSH, which replaced the written order mechanic, with something quicker and less prone to player interpretation, would be the game to play – as you'd get more toys on the table, which can only be fun.

Enthusiastic vote for me for BKC. Haven't seen CWC in play yet.

As above CWC is somewhat lower scale than MSH, and a rather different approach to simulation.

Fistful of Tows 3 gives a great game.
