What figures would you use if you wanted Illyrians for the Alexandrian conquest of Persia?
I`m doing this in 1/72nd scale, so I would appreciate if you could let me know of any appropriate models for this.

For easy fix, I would use some of the Hatt Alexanders Light Infantry and those of the Thracian pack that has helmets. You also buy a few backs along with Greek Mercs and Phalangites and do some head swap surgery.

As long as your figures look like Peltasts that it shouldn't really matter.

They did have a certain type of helmet but I think you're going to have to be fairly flexible on this.

IIRC Illyrian warriors didn't use a belt on their tunics so looked quite distinctive and their headgear is unusual too.

link some good images here.

Did Illyrians actually go east with Alexander? I don't recall seeing them in anything I have read. I may be wrong.

These might be close enough, some slight shaving of stuff hanging from belts and a paintjob should do it. Helmets and handarms look pretty good.

bruntonboy, I think you are right but the Agrianian did who, I believe an Illyrian tribe of sorts.

Etruscans are thought to use the rectangular shields. Here are some by HaT…sadly never to be produced. link

The distinctive helmet is apparently an attic style helmet according to the pictures posted above by bruntonboy. The distinctive bit is really the crest.

Some class 3 and 4 infantry from Newline designs. These are 20mm so a little bit smaller than 1/72 scale.

Not Illyrian but they do look the part.

Some Newline Designs size comparisons. Not of the Etruscans specifically but other figures in their 20mm range.

Thanks Gents some useful suggestions…

Some of the HaT Etruscans with the slightly rounded sheilds look useful – but not yet released?

Otherwise I think I might go for Alexander`s light troops adding some different shields and crests?

The HaT Set 8019 Hannibal's Carthaginians – Spanish Infantry …could be close enough but with different heads and crests added maybe ?

HaT Set 8040 Italian Allies has similar looking figures but for the irregular shape to the ovoid shields.

The Hat Etruscans will probably never be released – it has passed 4 or 5 years since they appeared on their website.

You'll have to do quite a bit of conversions. Your best bet is Alexander's Light Troops I think.

I have bought one pack each of: HaT`s Carthaginian Allies, Spanish Infantry, Italian Allies, and Alexander`s light troops for the conversions… I`ll post here later when I get around to doing them.
