This (originally Airfix) kit has been around for decades, and still regularly appears on model railway layouts. Can be converted into a lot of other things, too.

Dapol have all the Airfix trackside buildings – the thatched cottage and country pub are useful items. Years ago Terry Wise did a series of articles on converting the buildings (in Airfix Magazine – late 1960s, early 1970s IIRC).

My favourite was his building an American western town from the modern garage and the signal box ! Looked good too.

The old Airfix parish church must have graced thousands of wargame tables.

I'd guess that the most likely source in the USA would be if they are available through model railway stockists.
