Is there a site where you can make some good 6mm scaled virtual tabletops? I was working on doing an online demo for a game. I can roll dice and mark damage by hand. My primary concern it ot have a surface that is close to scale and that will allow me to measure movement without having a hex grid or square grid on the surface.

Not sure what you mean to scale (scale is relative on a PC).

give roll20 a look, it is primarily for RPGs but has been used for minis.

Also – here is an earlier post on them, the first poster did a roundup. Since he did this Roll20 has gotten a movement ruler.

What I have in mind is to do Demos on the computer so that I can capture the images and post them. I'm doing some Demos for the new Robotech Tactics game and wanted to create a tabletop, I already have many of the images, so that I can move the units and fight it out and do a detailed AAR. Enough so that players will have an excellent grasp of the rules before they come out. If it works well enough I'll use it to do up a strategy guide of some sort.

Roll20 should do what you want, you can upload all the images you have and manuever them around as needed.

BGE should work as well though it is not online.

I don't remember if battle chronicler was listed in the thread above but it could be useful as well.

Can you measure as you move on Roll20?

Dynaman878929 Apr 2014 11:56 a.m. PST

Yes, press the space bar when you start to move, each time you press it it starts anew from that position. (so you can move forward X, then sideways X, then…)

Thanks

Hey there,

I'm the developer of Battlegrounds Gaming Engine.

I wanted to let you all know that you can currently get a Gamer-8 BGE Client license for just $17 USD, via this Kickstarter campaign, which ends in 4-5 days. This license allows you to host online games and have up to 7 players log in and play using just the free BGE Demo.

The KS campaign itself is for developing token content that most of you won't care about (aside from perhaps the Vietnam era tokens), but I am offering discounts on both BGE and BRPG (my other app, for playing RPGs) to help achieve higher funding than I would otherwise.

I also wanted to mention that BGE is currently having a "free use" promo for the duration of the KS campaign, so if anyone wants to take the program for a test drive and use the app fully unlocked for a while, now's your chance.

There's a video tutorial that walks you through the entire process of porting a game to BGE. The process is really quite simple, and BGE should prove to be an empowering toolkit for those who have had no luck trying to create their own game modules in other virtual tabletop apps.

By the way, to better support tabletop miniature wargames, the next release of BGE (v1.8) will let you move formations of units and wheel/pivot them very easily and with great precision. It is due for release in a week or two.
