Approximately when did Soviet (and for that matter, WarPac) armored vehicles go from overall green to a camo pattern? I seem to remember late 80s, but I was hoping to find a more definitive year. Thanks. |

I first saw one in camo at a UAE IDEX IN 1989 (Abu Dhabi I think???) – a T80
Had quite bright yellow wavy bands superimposed on khaki bands over OG. |

Export versions, presented at military shows were normally painted in camo of potential buyers. In my time in the army I think I've seen a couple of tanks, also T-80 on one of the exercises in 1986. In 1991, during August GKCHP events, Kantemirov unit that was moved into Moscow had some of their tanks in camo, too. |
