On Easter Sunday, JD, Zach and Fred came over for a AWI game using Black Powder rules. It was a made up sceanrio called "Raid into Upper NY." A British force made up mostly of Tories, Indians and one Brit Regular march in Upper to destroy rebel farms. They met a 2 small BDEs of militia outside of a village called "Cristtowne" COL JD was in command of one militia BDE and LTC Crist in charge of the other. Unfortunately in this scenario one of the Rebels BDE Co's was a drunkard and that honor went to LTC Crist. (way to go JD give the new guy the drunk commander)
This was Fred's first miniature wargame every. He has not played a wargame since college and that was squad Leader.
The battle went well at first for the rebels and despite being "drunk" Fred had beginners luck and rolled a lot of 6's. His small cav unit (3rd Congenital Dragoons, the best unit on the rebel side) drove off the British cavalry and roamed around threatening the rear of British forces for most to the game and holding the Indians in check. While his militia Inf managed also destroy one Tory Regt. COL JD did not fare so well as BG Zach British Inf musketry, supported by artillery pounded the rebels an drove them back.
We played about 11 turns and Fred's luck held as his "drinking on the battlefield" did not hamper is combat ability until the last turn when he was suppose o join up with JD flank for one big push
but he rolled snake eyes which meant his BDE Commander was dead drunk and was equivalent to a "12 and a BLUNDER! His surviving militia REGT a went running into the woods seeking cover!
British victory! The British fought a good fight the only real draw back was that it took zach 4 turns to light the Rebel farm on fire
wet matches I guess?
