It didn't come about. Personally I was surprised. What was the reason ?
The figures are incredible, no doubt about it. I am sure everybody will agree to this. Even superior to the best on the market.
So why ?
Are there that few peaople (world wide) interested in the Samurai wars ? Or are they, for many wargamers, too hard to paint? I would like to know…. Are whe so few ?????

clibinarium23 Apr 2014 1:54 p.m. PST

Well its a bit of a niche period, but not obscure by any means.
I think the sculptor behind the project intends to rejig the project and intends to start it again in some other form, so it will be happening by the looks of things.

Ron W DuBray23 Apr 2014 3:34 p.m. PST

Well there are a lot of Samurai wars minis already in production.

BelgianRay23 Apr 2014 5:09 p.m. PST

"Well there are a lot of Samurai wars minis already in production."
Perry, Wargames Factory (very limited),some KINGSFORD (USA only). That is not "a lot of Samurai minis"

Borathan23 Apr 2014 5:15 p.m. PST

A lot of it seems to be the price for what would be received.

Sure, they're good minis, but not so good that I'm spending twice the normal amount for. I'm not paying $35 USD for two basic minis unless there is something exceedingly special about them, and then there is shipping on top of it.

Especially with models that require work as the various steel fist tutorials seem to show…

Hi there,
We actually ship worldwide! I hope to have some new figure packs in stock in the next two weeks.

Sincerely,

Ron W DuBray23 Apr 2014 7:13 p.m. PST

that makes 8

I remember seeing more but I can't remember where.

I like the figures.

Some concept art, or even contemporary screens showing what a particular commander and his retinue/banner would look like would have made a difference. A detailed, clear description of what a backer was going to get is necessary.

Were my retinue figures going to be mounted as well as the daimyo? Attacking? Standing around holding a yari? Sitting?

It just wasn't clear.

People have been getting burned by Kickstarter a lot and if I'm not mistaken they're starting to be more cautious. I know I am.

Borathan23 Apr 2014 10:58 p.m. PST

@Ron
There's also Bushido and the Wargames Factory Samurai and Ashigaru sets.

You also have Valiant's re-release of the AEG L5R Clan Wars figures.

And there are several places with a small number of samurai amongst other ranges

BelgianRay24 Apr 2014 4:00 a.m. PST

Ron W Dubray : Reaper is also only US and I do not think Dixon can rank anywhere near what is acceptable these days.
Sohei is mythical and have token figures.
Borathan : I mensionned W

BelgianRay24 Apr 2014 4:14 a.m. PST

Borathan : Bushido and Clan Wars are Fantasy. Not everything labelled "Samurai" is of the same period or even historical, as what Steel Fist is producing. If the price is the problem, that I can understand. I do not think you will be buying Games Workshop either then.

Sturmpioneer : I know you ship worlwide (ordered once this year from you), and I don't mind the shipment cost. What makes it quite expensive is the taxes whe pay here on top for being send from outside the EU

Borathan24 Apr 2014 9:11 a.m. PST

Both Bushido and Clan Wars do have several minis that work rather well for non-fantasy

Angelotti24 Apr 2014 7:58 p.m. PST

I am just getting into the sengoku era, and re-entering minis I general. I was able to pick up a decent number of Zvezda with: link and a second set of figures that someone was selling. 244 figures, with game system for around $75. USD

Joby400125 Apr 2014 6:22 a.m. PST

There are also: The Assault Group, Curteys, 1st Corps, Museum Miniatures, Old Glory, Victory Force, Wargames Foundry and Westwind; all of which have some Samurai figures that are suitable. Granted scales, period, fantasy elements and quality vary …

The Steel Fist figures look great and I was disappointed the Kickstarter got cancelled. Still, the figures look likely to be produced anyway and I for one will be buying some.

If you like the fantasy figures, Bushido, Clan Wars and Cavalcade (now part of Forlorn Hope) are excellent.

BelgianRay25 Apr 2014 12:39 p.m. PST

Thanks Joby4001, hope you are right on the second part, you were right on the first.

Angelotti : Zvezda have indeed very beautifull 20 mm figures. With that size of figures and if you are really interested in playing the Sengoku era I sugest you take a serious look at Killer Katana's for rules. For large size battles that are playable and period flavour , there is no better for the moment.

Angelotti25 Apr 2014 7:34 p.m. PST

BelgianRay – I will most certainly check that out! Thank you!

I have a friend who has rejiggered C&C for his Napoleanics I want to see if I can adapt to samurai. If I recall, he replaced the Left/Center/Right with a commander range (zone?) of influence.

I haven't painted in many many years and it is really great to see the advances in paints, stains, etc. I am going to be checking out the workshop forums.

I am also new to TMP – so thanks for being kind to the new guy!

Carlos13th26 Apr 2014 1:18 p.m. PST

Huge list guys.

Steel Fists kickstarter needed clarity and advertising in my opinion.

Good breakdown of the exact contents of each pack saying how many miniatures there were and if they were standing, mounted, seated or holding banners etc.

I think they will do better the second time around.

Borathan26 Apr 2014 7:20 p.m. PST

@angelotti
What scale are the minis that come with that game, it looks like it might be an good way to get a lot of useful ones

Angelotti27 Apr 2014 7:51 p.m. PST

@Borathan
They are 1/72. The game includes both C&C and Art of Tactics rules, player aids, cards, dice, etc. and the Zvezda sets:

8x 6401 Ashigaru Infantry Spearmen
4x 6414 Ashigaru Infantry Bowmen
2x 6402 Ashigaru Infantry Arquebusiers
4x 6403 Samurai Infantry Naginata
2x 6407 Samurai Cavalry Yari
2x 6410 Samurai headquarters
4x 6411 Commanders

By buying a second set of miniatures separately gave me 244 figures – healthy size army (and a lot of painting!) I am going to use 8 figures per infantry unit and 4 per cavalry. Because of the scale, I am planning on using .75" x .75" for the infantry and command, and .75" x 1.5" for the cavalry.

Angelotti27 Apr 2014 7:53 p.m. PST

@Borathan

Oh – one more thing: a good source of information on the game is:
