My 15-year-old and I will be coming to the UK to attend the Tank Fest in Bovington at the end of June.

1) Will any of my fellow TMPers be there as well?

2) Any recommendations on food or drink for the evening in Weymouth (we'll be staying at the Windsor, right on the sea)?

Avoid Weymouth in Summer would be my recommendation – its full of grockles! :-)

You may want to go and pay homage to the Home of Peter Pig -36 Knightsdale Road – ostensibly a normal suburban home, but in a tiny shed in the garden….Although Martin will probably be away at Tankfest himself…

Seriously though some lovely, but pricey, seafood restaurants all round the inner harbour, and a couple of good chippies, again on both sides of the harbour if you fancy something simpler. There both good, but the one on the town side of the swing bridge is second best in my view…Mind you I left 5 years ago so I'm not exactly current!

But my all time recommendation for eating would be the Gurkha Restaurant on the boat on the river up from Town Quay – all you can eat for a few quid – Nepalese, Indian and Chinese self service buffet – outstanding! And they serve Gurkha beer! Book well in advance though!

Enjoy TankFest! I'd love to go to just one more….

Oh, and plan to arrive early or have something to do in the car as you queue…

If you get a chance the Nothe Fort is worth a visit

Corfe Castle is just up the road. Probably the most beautiful ruin in Britain.

Sparker – Now Osprey's gone, there's not much reason to go to Weymouth! I fondly remember the water-pistol fight in the Black Dog! Happy memories of the Eighties and being a Wafu!

I'll be there with the wife and kids. The wife's said she'll dress as a character from "Girls und Panzer".

After Weymouth, we will be spending a day in Cardiff, one in Caernarfon, and one in London before taking the Chunnel to Paris.

Our hotel is on the Esplanade – actually at the very end of the portion on which you are permitted to drive.

In Caernarfon Castle there is the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum rwfmuseum.org.uk and you're spoilt for choice for sites reasonably close to Cardiff. Conwy and Raglan castles are well worth a visit.

The Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum is on the list, as well as the castle itself, of course.

Hello J
Hope you enjoy Weymouth , it the town I chose to live in for many reasons.
The roads to Weymouth are now very good indeed, as new roads have been built. We can arrange a game if you two chaps have the time. We can show you the new PBI, square bashing or whatever??
If you fancy a good walk one evening, I will take you around the Sandsfoot castle and railway.

Get in touch and we will make sure you get a good welcome to Dorset!!

Locally there is also the Dorchester military museum too.

That is quite an itinerary! Are you allowing a day to travel from Weymouth to Cardiff etc and then a full day at each place? Caernarfon Castle alone can take most of a day to get round!

What is top of your list in London? Many, many days worth of stuff to see there!

Are you planning to hire a car or use public transport? A car will give you more flexibility around the country but London is best done by public transport.

The Black Dog! Great pub – with lots of escape routes!

Sadly after the fleet moved on it became rather genteel – still served Badger though, or at least it did on my 'farewell' pub crawl 5 years ago…

J Womack 9423 Apr 2014 4:20 p.m. PST

We are going on public transport. Arrive in London on 27 June at 0655, train to Weymouth.

Martin – Might have a go at PBI that Friday afternoon/evening, if you're up for it?

Depart Weymouth for Cardiff on 30 June at 0640; arrive 1018. Drop bags, eat lunch (Wye Valley Pie at The Goat Major), go to either Millennium (I hear it's under renovation for Rugby World Cup in 2015?) or the castle, both of which we missed in December 2012.

Depart Cardiff on 01 July at 0721; arrive Bangor 1138. Taxi to Caernarfon. Drop bags at hotel, grab a bite, go to the castle/museum.

Depart Caernarfon on Wed 02 July, probably 0922 from Bangor to London Euston, arriving 1239. Any hotel (near the station), game or restaurant ideas? I've been to London three times, and seen most of the touristy sights.

Depart London Fri 04 July (Independence Day!), Eurostar Chunnel to Paris. Probably the 1331 train, but maybe earlier.
