Looks like myself and my wife, (Gawd bless her!), will be up there this weekend. I'd like to take her to a couple of nice places nearby to eat. as I am not familiar with the area, I thought I would ask here first. Any suggestions? |

Define nice. I assume you mean a sit down restaurant? |

Nice: A: Good food. B: Clean. C: Good Service. D: Good Value. E: Doesn't require an hour drive. F: Doesn't have a standing room/waiting line of people waiting for a table. G: Someplace that doesn't have 50 large screens TV's all pointed to ESPN channels and packed with guys watching "Da Game"

I think we might try to stop at Hog Wild in Midlothian on our way either to or from the con. |

Try Gino's East for Pizza. If you want nicer, try the Mill Race Inn in St. Charles. It was where I took my wife on our first date. I think it's still there. Francesca's in St Charles is also very good. |

The Culvers is on the same property – you could walk there. It is between the expo center and the Hilton. |

There is an Italian resturant off main street west of the event. It's a couple blocks west of the river and south of main street. I enjoyed it. Your hotel staff should be able to be more precise about the name and address. |

If you like Chinese food, I recommend Wok On Fire in St. Charles, west on 64, just over the river and a wee bit south. Excellent Mongolian Beef. South of the Border is just down 64 also, west of the con and on the north side of the road. Panera's is also down 64. There are a couple of good burger bars in 'downtown' St. Charles. |

I ate at the Corfu Restaurant last year. I think it meets your set of criteria. It's between Sushi Yama and St. Charles Place on the link provided by Miniatureships (expand the map – sometimes it shows up and sometimes it doesn't depending upon where the map was centered to start – a bit weird, but it is a real place). It's an older local family restaurant that hasn't fully kept up with its newer neighbors, but stills serves good food. Reminded me a lot of a local family restaurant my family and I go to once or twice a week. |

If you're up for a good breakfast before starting, try the Colonial. Its on North Ave (64) west of the convention center a couple miles. It's been around for years and it's something of a local landmark. |
