Due to a fortuitous happenstance involving a school assignment for my 14 year-old daughter, I managed to temporarily complete -- sort of -- the layout I've been building for a long time for the 1879 Second Afghan War battle of Charasiab.

No troops laid out, just the terrain -- in 50 yds = 1" ground scale, covering roughly 4 miles wide by 2 miles deep.

This annotated pic is probably the highlight of the blog post, but I can't keep myself from putting it up here…

That really looks great, I will have to give those hills a go

Thanks very much for the kind comments Earthman, Rhingyll & War Monkey!

Richard, I am a big fan of your website and admirer of your terrain and your armies, so a compliment from you is wonderful to me!

Now that it's all laid out, I'm really looking forward to playing a full-scale real live Charasiab game at the earliest possible opportunity. A good gaming buddy of mine was supposed to visit from out of town this coming weekend, but unfortunately had to cancel, but I'm hoping I'll be able to press-gang an opponent or two into replacing him.

And Monkey, when you give the hills a go, if at all possible, please post some pics!

Oh man, booo booo you make me cry and want one sir! Good Job. Know it is so good sir, that if socialism arrives I will demand its collectivization :p

Konstantinos, I tried posting yesterday morning, right after I read your comment, but got called away from computer before I pulled it off, sadly, so now I'm back to say… dude, thanks for the compliment, and thanks even more for making me LAUGH OUT LOUD! The term, "…if socialism arrives I will demand its collectivization" has now entered my lexicon!

I believe that the Forces of Her Majesty's Government will need to launch an expedition to this area…

(now to swap those 28mm buildings with 15mm ones for my forces!)
