I was wondering if anyone knew offhand what some typical dimensional lumber equivalents would be in basswood or balsa (or even styrene), at 1/100 scale. For instance what would a two-by-four be in basswood at that scale? Similarly wondering if some model railroader hasn't already done all the math, and some kind of conversion chart for simple building products doesn't exist out there somewhere in the land of the web. Not quite sure exactly how to search for it. Hints or clues gladly accepted. |

grommet37 a 2"x4" (50mm x 100mm) would be 0.5mm x 1mm in 1/100th. |

OK I've got a carpenter trivia question for you. Pull out your tape measure. See that black diamond around 19 inches or so? Explain its presence there. No googling! |

Hmmmmm. I haven't noticed the little diamond but – to be honest – I haven't used the imperial measurements on a tape measure in a while. At least one of the tapes I regularly use only has metric. The joy – for me – of metrication is that I know exctly how big something should be in 1/100th with the simplest of maths possible – it's one hundredth of the real size. I regularly buy (full size) timber and such like in metric sizes so – for me a least – it's rarely a problem scaling things down for gaming. John T |
