Has anyone posted photos of the many dealers and manufacturers booths from this year's Salute? I always enjoy looking at them to see what's new and such. In years past, someone used to do this on another forum. BTW I watched the Rottenlead videos, which were nice. |

Major Bumsore – you're sounding a bit crotchety this morning, old boy. CPBelt is in the US and they use the term "booth" to describe what we would call a "stand". A booth is something different to us but I think we can find it in our hearts to permit regional variations of nomenclature on TMP. Actually, these days at UK shows (what our US friends call "conventions"), particularly Salute, there is a much higher percentage of stands that are far more than mere tables – maybe even most of them (although not mine, as it happens). Anyway, to return to the original question, I think the OP is referring to Joe Dever's superb "walk-throughs" which he has done in previous years. Joe announced here on TMP before Salute that he would not be doing one this year. Despite the plethora of Salute posts and blog photographic reports, no-one that I've seen as done anything approaching the thorough, professional job that Joe did which is a shame. Most people concentrate on the games (not surprisingly) but I would like to have seen a more holistic report from someone. Doug |

But then the Major is often given over to being just one big pain in the posterior. |

But then the Major is often given over to being just one big pain in the posterior. Possibly the old boy has been having difficulty getting supplies of the requisite cream recently – bound to make a chap grumpy. Doug |

Yes, Joe Dever is the gent I was thinking about! I loved his walkthroughs every year. Bummer he didn't do it this year. Sorry about the language barrier. I'll remember that the next time I look in the trunk of my car or open its hood. |

'Booth' is from the Old Norse, meaning: 'booth' or 'stall'. As in 'Boothgate', a street in York (Viking: Yorvik). Old Norse being introduced into England via the Viking settlements. As an aside: Many 16th and 17th century English words are still used in North America, introduced by the settlers, which otherwise have gone out of usage in Britain. So a so-called 'Americanism' might well be an English word with a far longer pedigree than its so-called modern English equivalent. Of course, things like is are hardly ever discussed in The Daily Mail. |
