Their uniforms are based on British Rifles uniforms…. Almost indistinguishable, except they use muskets instead of rifles. Reenactors tend to portray them as having green coat and grey pants rather than the green coat with green pants like the rifles tend to have. glengarrylightinfantry.ca |

Sorry I mean their flags. I read that they had flags but I don't know what they looked like. Also did they actually carry them in battle? |

IF they had flags, the regimental color would be as for units with black facings --black field with a red St.George's cross and Union Jack in the corner.the king's color is the union flag. |

Being a light battalion that rarely if ever served completely together colors would have been placed in safe storage. Their colors were recorded as being presented in a ceremony at Fort George. According to my copy of "The Glengarry Light Infantry, 1812-1816" they say that "Unfortunately the Glengarry colours are missing. No indication of the possible fate can be found in the regiment's literature. It is believed, herein, they were destroyed by fire at the same time the regimental books were lost when Fort George was bombarded in May, 1813." |

21eRegt; that is very interesting thanks. Re your book could you provide the publisher and date? As an aside; it makes you wonder about colours for Canadian militia during the war. Popular history states that did not have any (except for LC's five militia battalions)however, my memory has it that one of the York militia regiments were presented with home made colours but I have not found any details about them. agplumer; apologies if I have diverted your thread a bit but hope that you find the additional info useful. |

Cecil Lawson's A History of the Uniforms of the British Army notes that "the Milita Colours arrived too late to be delivered to the battalions before thet were disbanded at the peace." Nonetheless, my battalions are fielded with them on the wargame table! Rick |
