Here's a 1/6 skirmish, care of Tango TMP link

Not actually a game, more a diorama, but it would be playable.

The "Deal" club used to run a great saving private Ryan game at the shows in 1/32

There is the 1/1 scale used by re-enactors! But they do tend to squirm when you try to paint them!

They don't like war paint, woad and camouflage?!?

54mm would probably be the biggest you could use for tabletop gaming without needing a gym floor to set up. The ground scale for engagements really suffers at that scale though, imo, as a single building could take up nearly half the table if reproduced to scale correctly.

28mm is most likely the most common sweet spot for squad-platoon level skirmish though, though I'm liking 20mm's ground scale the best so far, and neither scale really is lacking for models.

15mm would also work, and could really give a good amount of ground to fight over. But you lose out a bit on the individual character of a model at that scale, so it's a trade off of sorts.

I have heard of guys using 1/6 scale out in the woods to game. They even poured their own cement casemates to fight over. Bit much if you ask me, but that'd be pretty cool nonetheless.

Thanks guys 1:1 sounds daunting to paint alright :) I like the idea of trying out an outdoor game with some pals on a camping trip. I use 20mm and have some 28mm too but wanted to do something much larger for an outdoor game…anyway 54mm sounds like it might work…thanks for the info guys

I think there was a game in 1/6 scale ("old GI Joe Scale") that was ran at Origins at least a couple of times….
