Okay, our procedure at Splintered Light is to start with the minis and make up stories about them and with them. David's marvelous line of 15mm characters and adventurers includes a variety of musicians/bards, including an elf flutist, a human bard with stringed something, a faun piper, a centaur hornist, a lutist who might be human or elf, a halfling bard, and some others. I'm thinking that the Archdruid of Wyldewood, who rules over many races (dominant elves, but also centaurs and fauns and halflings and humans and bearmen etc) might see some political/social/multi-cultural benefit to a traveling show of musicians of all races who make beautiful music together. 1) What would a good name be? The Wyldewood Wind? Kumbaya? Help me here. 2) PRIDE OF LIONS has charisma, which can be a powerful force in a battle, so that is one "power" that the group can have. But there's every reason to think that some of the musicians might be shamans also, so magic spells and/or control of spirits might be appropriate. So what powers/magic/abilities do you imagine that a multi-race musical group might have?
halfling bard
elf flutist
mustachioed harpist link faun pipes link centaur horn and there are others. |

I'm stuck for a name, other than something like The Wyldewood Players. They need a wagon with the name of the band on the side (which means you need to do a wagon!), and maybe a dancing girl or two (the Wood Elf Female Fanatic would work, with an easy conversion of her pole-weapon into a baton with ribbons on the ends). For spells and magic, Alan Dean Foster's Spellsinger books might give you some ideas. Some obvious ideas are lullabies that put enemies to sleep; scary songs that cause fear; melodies that cause people to dance uncontrollably; and so on. And they definitely need to appear on The Ed Sylvan Shew, er, Show. |

Yeah, how widely to spread the species net is a question for the Archdruid. The orcs of Moonglade are hostile -- but there is a drummer figure, I believe, and perhaps a gesture towards interracial harmony (sorry) might be well received. Otoh, if we make them a really hot group, with thousands of groupies, maybe it could be an entire army. Berserkers, I suppose. |

Yes, Foster's books need a re-reading for sure. I think David still has a lot of them. Lead vocalist named Elfis? |

Elftones I like. I'm resisting Metrognome. "No trolls aloud" will be one of their acts. |
