It's a great time to be a fan of plastic Romans, now that Victrix is also getting into the plastic Republican Roman game, in addition to Agema Miniature's soon to be released Roman legionaries. link I have some of the Agema velites, and while size-wise they match with other 28mm, the heads are realistic and much smaller than other lines out there. The legionaries look to be the same. link They'll still work well with others on the table though, as long as they're put on separate stands. It sure beats what I was trying to do before, gluing styrene squares onto the chests of Wargames Factory Numidians to make Hastati. |

If you want plastic cavalry Wargames factory Roman cavalry works. They are generic enough to use for Greece or Carthage also. I will definitely be buying Victrix and Agema plastic Roman sets. |

Cardinal, the Victrix site suggests they will be doing a comprehensive range for the Punic wars
except maybe elephants.. |

The unfortunate fact of our niche hobby is that many things that would really be great in plastic – cavalry, elephants, anything that comes in kit form to be assembled -won't sell in big enough quantities to be financially worthwhile. A Republican Roman army has, what, 5% cavalry? And plastic elephants would be so much nicer to deal with than trying to pin and epoxy lead beasties together ---- but if I bought one box, I'd have all I ever needed, and Victrix (or whoever) wouldn't find it worth their investment. |

I have to disagree regarding plastic elephants. You could make an African elephant boxed set and an Indian elephant one at a set price. You could then offer a separate frame with a howdah and ancillary features like Rendra has with it's mud-brick house. They are a lot of army lists throughout time where elephants are employed. |

I just can't see how you could ever sell the number of elephant sets needed to justify making them – although I wish it wasn't so. Last time I was in the loop on making plastic sets, you had to sell several thousand sets to break even, whereas for metals it might be just a hundred or so. |
