Occasionally, I get the urge to add to my Vietnam War 28mm collection so I can game more than just the basic infantry on infantry scenarios.

Squadron is running a sale on Revell 1/48 scale Swift Boats link and I was wondering if anyone had gotten one of these in the past and if it was an easy conversion to a waterline model for gaming purposes.

It looks like it would be a good start for a VC ambush of a riverine patrol.

Pretty basic kit. IIRC, the hull is one piece. So cutting it down to the waterline should be simple work.

Thanks--I'll give it a shot.

Rob……There is actually a raised "rib" at the waterline. I ran a black pen along it then took my Dremel with a small circular saw blade and waterlined it. You should glue the deck on the night before to stiffen things up and you would do well to glue a flat sheet of styrene on the bottom, trim it close and then sand things so any uneven cuts can be filled in. A really nice kit with few parts but good detail.

and you can always take the bottom that was cut off, invert it on another base…add some floating debris, and there's your casualty base/blown up version for the table top.

…and a decent price to boot.
