Just thought I would start a topic giving/eliciting advice for/from Salute attendees. This will be my 30th Salute. The idea here is to give hints and tips from TMP members to the happy gamers. Here are 5 to get things started.

1. Arrive at 11 in order to miss the initial queue
2.Bring a screw cap bottle which you can drink from and refill.
3. have a spare mars bar with you. all that fun can be tiring.
4. Get in early on participation games whilst the others are rushing off to get their purchases.
5. Take clothes with really deep pockets to push your wallet and phone right down there!

more??

martin, have a good day.

6. Avoid the stormtroopers.
7. Have a care with your backpack and personal hygiene on the day.
8. If you have any Nazi regalia, leave it at home.
9. Don't feed the Frothers.

10. Wear good, comfortable, supportive footwear.
11. I always bring a carry-bag in addition to a back pack.

Purchase stuff early. Start off slow on the beer and build up steadily towards the Euston return. Remember tinnies for the train and cruise back into Manchester all happy. Its not all about soldiers you know – its a fun day out! Si

Do any of the traders actually sell out of stock? If so, should one get there early?

The Dice Bag Lady is gonna be there. I'd go see her first because she's really cute, and so is her WFB army.

My plan is purchase early, then relax. It will be a long day, but looking forward to the adventure!

12. visit the Society of Ancients stand (GK04)… I'd put this higher up than the Mars bar, of course, but each to his own …

We will have Prof. Philip Sabin doing the Lost Battle of Cynoscephalae, and you will be welcome to join in.

Leave the back pack at home entirely, and remember there is plenty of time to get round everything so meet up with your friends for a coffee.

Is it really your 30th, Martin? And I thought I was a veteran (I have done every one since 1986 … I can't believe that will make 28 … the meeting I had this morning was convened by someone younger than that ..) …

Earplugs? Good recommendation about Dice Lady.

Been going to Salute since 1978(?) I think when it was In Chelsea. Fond memories of the tight squeeze in the corridors of Kensington Town hall in the 1980s thou go!
I will be co hosting the Oshiro Models/Red Planet Miniatures VSF game on stand GC01. Come and say hello!

It's on my bucket list…bit of a drive from Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

13. Always wear clean underwear in case you are in an accident. (Also helps with #7 above)

14) Pick up your pre-orders just before leaving the show, that way you don't have to carry them with you the whole day.

15) Always take a notepad.

16) Shop around for Vallejo paints. Last year there was 35p difference between traders.

Crossing the pond and attending Salute is one of the items on my bucket list.

Not this year, but maybe in 5.

May the dice be with you.

17) It is only 2 hours by train from where I live, why the heck have I never been :O

Fat Wally11 Apr 2014 12:42 p.m. PST

Ah, but we all know two hours by train in the UK can take an eternity at the weekend.

18. Look around the tube train on the way in to Excel and see if you can tell the difference between the wargamers and the athletes registering for the marathon. ;-)

We will be doing our Battle if Keren game on GB05 – for eight hours on that concrete floor you need really comfortable shoes.
We also take a cool box full of snacks and drinks – saves a fortune.
