"In six years, the U.S. Navy will have more ships, more cutting-edge weaponry and tactics and a greater ability to both show the flag in peacetime and sink enemy fleets during war.

That's what Adm. Jonathan Greenert, the Chief of Naval Operations, told the U.S. Senate in late March. But Greenert's sweeping vision of a bigger and deadlier fleet came with a chilling caveat.

Well, looks like we won't be the only ones paddling dugout canoes soon to outfit the "navy", assuming we can find the trees to make them with, and that isn't illegal.

And the US Navy will still be larger then all the other Navies on the planet combined. Getting tired of these scare tactics from the war industrial complex and thier lackies. Get used to it. You can either have a military made up of high paid professionals or a bunch of low paid draftees. If you go with the low paid draftees you can have more toys, but we have seen how that works out.

So not enough in the budget they can't shoot at escape pods if there are no life signs aboard?

Or just as good. They didn't shoot due to wanting to let the laser coolant cool back down. What ships captain would want his laser capacity down due to firing on empty pods.

Is the Constitution still seaworthy?
Yep.

Takes an obscene amount of support to keep her that way, though.

I wonder how well an essentially all-wood ship shows on radar?

I wonder how well an essentially all-wood ship shows on radar?

At full sail I expect there's enough surface area to make it look like an aircraft carrier! ;)

Next to naught radar surface area. Wood is largely transparent to RF.
