"In the center of the North Island of New Zealand, on the outskirts of the small town of Waiouru National Army Museum stands. The concrete structure is certainly one of the world's ugliest buildings
but probably at least earthquake-proof. The whole complex is way constitute a fortress, including towers and drawbridge. Nevertheless, it is worth visiting, as the museum has a very nice and well presented collection. In addition, one comes at a New Zealand travel almost inevitable at this museum pass, as it is situated on the main thoroughfare of the North Island

Thanks for the preview. When I mentioned your post this morning to my daughter, who is currently visiting with my two Kiwi grandsons, she told me she was planning to take me there on my next trip out. Rick |

It's a terrific museum, and well worth a visit. And the setting below the volcano Mt Ruapehu is spectacular. The blogger in Tango's re-posting has taken some excellent photos of the New Zealand Wars exhibits. These will be very useful for anyone painting NZ Wars figures (though some are full-dress uniforms or slightly later period). I also did a posting on my own blog a while back, in which I linked to some terrific online photos I had found of the NZ Army Museum: link
