I am just wondering as I look into this period if any of the Perry plastics are useable for the Wallachain armies of the 15th century particularly the wars between them and the Ottomans? Also are the Stradiotti figures (metal)good stand ins for some of the units?

Yes, you can use stradiots for light cavalry. Other plastics are good as German and Italian mercenaries – crossbowmen and billmen.

Check Old Glory Turkish and other Eastern renaissance lines – you'll find any troop types and in great variety.

Some of the battles featured Westerners too so you can always use those as forces in your games. If you do you just have to match up the dates and you're good to go.

I am an unabashed Perry fan so the more Perry figures I can use the better….I am going to get quite a few of the Oldglory ones and remount them on Perry Horses….especially the excellent looking Vlad OG does…

The Stradiotti figures shown are probably based on a 1506 print of the Battle of Fornovo 1495. Their uniform appearance may be due to the artist basing all the stradiots on one individual he saw in Italy.

In Ian Heath's Armies of the Middle Ages Vol 2 the 15th century Roumanian cavalrmen have a beehive Lynx-fur hat with feathers, or conical hats with split brim. Armed with bow and sabre with round shield. Padded armour is not mentioned. See the Mural in the Székelyderzs (Dârjiu) Unitarian Church, Romania, 1419 & the mural of the Saint Ladislaus legend in the Bibarcfalva (Biborteni) church, Románia, Early 15th century. Hats like those in Breydenbach's Peregrinationes in Terram Sanctam, 1486 may be other posibilities.

The source for that costume is probably a plate in volume 3 of the Funcken series, 'The Age of Chivalry', which depicts a stradiot attired thus.

Old Glory's Eastern Renaissance range is one of their very best!

Another vote for Old Glory's eastern renaissance. It is really good.
