Is Extra Creepy. "Short of getting sucked out to sea and drowning, few things seem more horrifying than being the person who isn't taken in a Rapture. (I have weird fears.) That's why everything about this first trailer for HBO's upcoming The Leftovers seems extra super creepy. "Two percent doesn't sound like much, but two percent of the entire planet, of every person on it, that's more than the world's ten largest cities combined," the voiceover intones. "It's 140 million people—and like that, they were gone." This teaser doesn't really offer much detail about where they went or why, but those familiar with the book by Tom Perrotta (Election), on which the show is based, and the work of the show's co-creator Damon Lindelof (particularly Lost) can see that The Leftovers is probably going somewhere very, very dark. Want more evidence of this? Spend some time staring at that "We Are Living Reminders" sign in some random woman's bathroom

140 million? The world would make those numbers up in short order at our current birthrate. Real scary is that there are ONLY 140 million left. 2% of my town would be 280 people. That would be creepy. |

Oddball, I am thinking it is not that the 140m is too many for, "the world to go on," it is the consequences – what that MEANS regarding theology, peoples paradigms, belief systems being turned on their heads, etc. If you know anything about biblical, "end times," regarding the Rapture (since that is the particular version of end times being portrayed here) then, yes – things would go, "very dark," in short order, no matter if the birthrate kept up with the loss. |

Similar theme to 'This Is The End' and 'The Rapture'(an old favorite). |

Wait, wait, wait
I just read a few Amazon reviews of the book, and it seems that this may not be a clear-cut "Rapture" in the vein of theology
that people disappear suddenly regardless of faith/holiness/etc. and the world goes on as normal, but with a mystery to thy and figures out. So
NOT the Rapture, as advertised. |

I have to agree – only 2% left would be scarier. |

2% going missing would only be missed by the family members still here. |

Gosh, you'd think that within that 2% would be about 40% of TMP. |

It'll make driving on I-95 and the Fl. Turnpike much easier in Miami-Dade County
that's for sure! |
