Hi, I thought I'd ask for help. I have four different Ospreys on the Vietnam War: Armies of the Vietnam War 1962-1975, Viet Cong Fighter, North Vietnamese Army 1958-1975, and ARVN.

Looking at my references, the VC seemed to wear whatever they could find. However, they did try and equip their people with uniform equipment and weapons when possible.

So what colors should I paint my 28mm VC? I have an entire 1:1 28mm Viet Cong infantry company with 9 squads and 3 infantry platoons. Should I color code them by squad? Should I paint them with black pajamas and tan hats? Should I give them an individual look?

I also have a group of 28mm Vietnam civilians to go with the VC. But I'm not going to get into buying another 1:1 28mm NVA infantry company. I could barely afford getting the US Marines, ARVN, and company of 28mm VC for my 28mm Vietnam game.

Thanks in advance,
Blake

I started to paint mine in Black Pajamas with green hats, straw hats and the occasional bit of blue clothing.

I intend showing the different squads by a colour coded strip on the rear edge of each base.

I'd love to get back and finish the rest of force some time soon but I doubt I will fit it in for awhile.

I paint my VC highly individualized just as I do with F&I Indians, Pathans etc. Then, if I find it necessary, I paint a colored strip on the back of the stand to identify the unit. You can also use colored stickers for a more temporary marker if you would rather.

I paint my 20mm individualized. Local VC are nearly all black though. My Main Force VC are mostly khaki with some black parts mixed in.

I tell different units by Woodland Scenics medium sized ballast. I put one piece on each figure's base. I paint them different colors for the different squads.

I'm reading up on the Viet Minh for French Indochina starting with the4 Osprey offering and it appears they tried to go for some form of uniformity but I magine it was the exception rathner than the rule, regular supplies were a nightmare I imaginbe. One way they did manage uniformity backed up by photo's is neck scarfs.

So thes could be various colours and patterns to distinguish units whilst still ahving an irregular clothing mix.
