Never played BGK but I like the scenery. Especially the brown surface for summer in Russia.

Very nice scenery and models with some great shots displaying the action. I really like the rules as well but since I'm finding it difficult to get in any gaming in at the moment its nice to check out an AAR

Great looking battle there! I wish I had terrain like that. Waiting impatiently for my copy of BG overlord!!

Thanks Guys – yes terrain for the Southern Russian Summer is always problematic – everyone expects firs and pines but of course actually its quite temperate going on semi-arid, particularly in July…

Nice Sparker… Really nice.

Greetings

I think it's fair to say that BGK allows you to have some artillery on the table if you want it – though it looks to me as if Sparker's in this case were acting as AT artillery so needed to be on table, rather than being 76mm/122mm divisional artillery (though being Russian fire over open sights was not unknown even for 152mm pieces).

Technically if using the BG structure the Russians can field on table Katyushas, medium or heavy mortars and, for rifle divisions, 76mm ZIS-3 guns, 122mm or 152mm howitzers or 122mm guns.

The Germans can field on table mortars, SP guns or SP werfers, 10.5cm and 15cm howitzers and 10cm guns.

There are upsides and downsides to having your artillery so involved in the battle though and it's just as easy to decide to have off-table support instead. It's just more difficult to call in.

Regards

Edward

Both the same to call in… just field guns on table may direct fire.

They boost an armies 'rating' but are easily killed on table.

Off table cant be killed, dont boost the army morale, but fire as batteries… far more effective. Its done that way to edge a player to off table support but the on table option is there.

I never have ontable arty unless its for an AT role or direct fire infantry guns.
