Has anyone tried adapting these rules for WW1 Middle East games? Would there be any problems and have TFL announced that there is a WW1 version to be released?

I believe Rich has played WW1 with it, and extended it to post war conflicts – basically it works for any period with similar tactics.

Serendipitous posting by the First Brigade followed by the Last Hussar.

I need to hear more about CoC in WWI. I have British Empire mid-east and Ottomans in 10mm and a friend has late war British, French and Germans in 15mm.

CoC is closely related to Through the Mud and the Blood, TFL's WWI platoon-level ruleset. I have not tried it, but I would imagine that you could use the combat system from M&B with the command and control, morale, and pre-game parts of CoC quite easily. YMMV.

I would agree with Mike that you could add in elements of CoC to Through the Mud and Blood for later war armies where platoons were split into sections and teams. It's a bit harder for early war in my view. There is some discussion of the relative merits of that approach in the M&B section on the TFL Forum.

Vtsaogames, have you taken a look at TFL's. " If The Lord Spares Us" rules which are specifically designed for the Middle East WW1 battles albeit at a higher scale of combat than CoC.

Yes I have – that's why the 10mm figures were purchased. But I'd like to use them for a CoC style game too.

You'll need to check tactical doctrines carefully. If, as I suspect, sections tended to act as sections rather than splitting into teams you may find that they are more difficult to command (not activating on a roll of one). This may slow things down a bit but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Just use Mud & Blood, it doesn't get any better for WW1 rules…

Zargon03 Apr 2014 4:06 p.m. PST

Agree with Ceterman, they work perfectly.
