They're great figs. I painted up the Brits. I hope they continue with perhaps some Grenadiers or cavalry.
The AWI does not need enormous variety (the hat variety in these sets helps serve that) to field most formations.

Generalstoner4901 Apr 2014 4:15 p.m. PST

Looking forward to this set. First up will be Sherburne's regiment then either the Canadian regiment or a generic buckskin wearing regiment.

Supercilius Maximus01 Apr 2014 4:34 p.m. PST

Pan Marek,

You can make up the British infantry as grenadiers from the existing plastic figures already, as they wore hats in the latter half of the war. The main grenadier distinctions – the short sword and the match case on the cartridge box belt – seem to have been put into storage early on in the war, and the bearskin caps followed in late 1778/early 1779, with a white feather being worn in the cocked or slouch hat. The wings on the coat shoulders were less prominent than they were on the Napoleonic uniform, and could just be painted onto the top of the coat sleeve.

The thing is I only need the ones in hunting shirt with peaked hats and bayonets fixed. I have to buy all this just to get them. I wish these were metal instead. Plastics are just too much trouble. Major buzz kill.

But I will probably order a box. Waiting on these has held up my Saratoga project for too long. Anyone know how many in hunting shirts there are in a box?

John the OFM01 Apr 2014 6:51 p.m. PST

I have heard that the hunting shirt frames will be s\available separately.

Old Contemptibles01 Apr 2014 7:25 p.m. PST

I saw on their website that they have Continental Riflemen. When I looked at the spur it showed a musket with a bayonet and a peaked cap.

My confusion stems from the fact that Rifleman didn't have bayonets and I don't recall any Cont. Riflemen in peaked caps.

So if these figs do indeed have bayonets, hunting shirts and peaked caps, then that will do. I want to mix them into Dearborn's Light Infantry. I just don't want to pay for all the rest of the figs I don't need. Gee, I wish they did these in metal.

Another home run.

Great for those who like plastic. I just hope they continue producing more metal.

All I want to know is whether the included painting guide is of significant value 'cuz otherwise the whole set is useless to me – unless if washed in hot enough water they shrink down to 15 mm!

Supercilius Maximus03 Apr 2014 1:58 a.m. PST

@ Rallynow,

You can make up any combo of hat/clothing/weapon from the sprues in the box; the arm options give you marching or marching casually (and if you use the "empty" arms from each you can produce artillerymen, sappers, prisoners etc).

As OFM has said, if you only want the hunting shirt option (there are only four H/S bodies in a box), you can buy spare sprues instead – although at least one full box will give you various "extras" such as weapons, headgear, and flagpoles.

@ Early Morning Writer,

I think you will be quite pleased with the painting guide – it has more uniform combos than you can shake a sprue at. I understand that there will be more going onto the website at some point – for example, there wasn't room on the sheet for all of the uniforms worn by the Additional Regiments.

It's amazing how folks find reasons to complain. I can imagine if it had a box full of hunting shirts or whatever and then somebody would complain about something else not there. American units are especially difficult builds for this period as they wore such a wide array of uniforms that I think the Perry's did a great job trying to offer as much variation as possible to help with this difficulty. This is on top of their already very extensive metal range. Combining the metal and plastics you would be hard pressed to find this many options within the same company for this period. IMHO it's cause for celebration and not complaints.

Personally I prefer metals, but this is a situation where I actually do welcome the plastic box and all it's options and like somebody mentioned buy cheaper sprue's to fill in the holes where needed. Still works out cheaper in the long run compared to pure metal.

I'm looking forward to getting a closer look at the Washington figure offered in the pre-order as he does look nice.:-)

Stop complaining about people complaining. This stuff cost real money and if someone wants to complain or voice a concern then let them.

I have always said this is the "Golden Age" of historical miniature gaming, with all the products now available and access to them via the internet.

But if someone wants to complain. Then I say go for it. Complaining provides a vital service. It gives manufacturers feedback from their customers. So stop complaining about complaining.

Supercilius Maximus04 Apr 2014 3:32 a.m. PST

Yes, but there's complaining about a genuine error, or missed opportunity, and then there's mere whining that the provision of as many options as possible doesn't quite cover one's own (often unusual) specific needs. Yes, this stuff costs real money, but not really very much compared with, say, concert tickets, sports events, restoring old cars, women's shoes (that will cripple her the only time she wears them), etc etc.

Old Pete04 Apr 2014 12:32 p.m. PST

Great stuff, look forward to buying a few boxes in the near future.

buckskin wearing regiment.
>>
To correct you,NOBODY wore "buckskin". The hunting shirts were made of linen, and dyed different colors.

I am really looking forward to this set.

Has there been any rumors of plastic militia?

mrinku08 Apr 2014 11:29 p.m. PST

Only as a strong possibility with the upcoming Wargames Factory AWI sets. As yet only their BritishInfantry has been confirmed.

mrinku21 Apr 2014 9:03 p.m. PST

Continental Infantry from WGF now confirmed, looks like Colonial Militia is the third for their initial three box release, and Woodland Indians might be the fourth set. The latter two have not been announced, but come from trying to make out text on the side of the Continental Infantry box picture. No images or official word yet.

Mr Martyn22 Apr 2014 5:21 a.m. PST

i seem to recall perry's initial announcement for the plastic British a few years ago stating that a militia box set would eventually be released.
