I am doing lots of other project related things so I decide to do something else.

There was discussion in 2012-early 2013 year on programmable opponents on Dale's Solo Battles blog (highly recommended):

solo-battles.blogspot.com

I have been thinking this over ever since and how to apply it to my own rules, Ancient Battlelines Clash rules. Last month, I wrote down my thoughts and in the last few weeks played 5 games using the programmable opponent to play both sides. And blogged about it here:

Note that the blog post is long likely to be tedious if you don't care about programmable opponents. There are only a couple of pictures per game and a lot of blurb on the programmable opponent.

As I mention in the post, I had so much fun (both playing and tinkering with the programmable opponent) I am very tempted to continue to ignore my other projects and play some more games.

Interesting stuff, Shaun. I'd say go with your instincts and play some more games :)

At a glance, it looks like you are on to something Shaun. I'll look closer when I have more time.

Interesting reading and the table progressing well. Do the Generals expanding experience and skill not count for anything? Sort of like veteran units etc.? Or is that to follow?

I am *this close* to randomly generating 30 more battles across history to test these out!

Some of the programmable opponent can apply to Rally Round the King (where Dale's discussion ended) and I may look at how to apply the ABC programmable stuff to RRtK. If I did that would be later in the year.

Generals expanding influence does not count – being rash/cautious is normally determined at the beginning of a one-off battle. I just added general continuity for a bit of fun to track how they went. I don't have any campaign rules in the game, but your questions lead to a good suggestion of including some guideline on how to run a campaign with the rules (not on running a campaign, but more on how to apply such things like a generals experience to a campaign game that is using the ABC rules to fight the battles).
