I put on a demo game of this battle today.

It's a small battle that gives a great scenario, as the Americans/rebels/patriots give ground to the British/Crown forces while their baggage escapes and the continental infantry try not to get themselves killed.

The militia even covered themselves in glory, holding a ford against attacks by the von Bose regiment AND the 71st Highlanders.

When its done well, and with your game we're talking superbly done, AWI gaming has a lot to beat.

Congratulations on a lovely looking game.

Any chance you could post an orbat here or the blog please, as I'd like to try this using the British Grenadier rules.

Thanks.

From memory with approximate strengths;

Lee's command:
Lee's legion dragoons (80)
Lee's legion foot (100)

Williams (c in c) command:
Continental infantry (300)
Campbell's rifles (60)
Militia rifles (120)
Washington's dragoons (80)

Preston's command:
Riflemen (3x120)
Militia (150)

The command structure is different from that in some OOBs to reflect my view of how Williams's and Pickens's brigades were rearranged to form an ad-hoc rearguard. I have combined three militia companies into one unit.

For the Crown you essentially have the same army as at Guilford Courthouse minus the two Guards battalions and the Guards grenadier company:

Tarleton:
Dragoons (150)
Jagers (80)

Webster:
23rd (250)
33rd (300)
Guard light company (80)

Leslie: (not mentioned but a logical expectation):
1/71st (150)
Von Bose (300)
Royal Artillery (2 gun sections)

I assume 6-pounders as per Babbitt's book on GCH but there's a lot of confusion about British artillery in the campaign.
My view is the Cornwallis began with one section of 3-pdr guns and two of 6-pdr but the lighter guns were lost in January at Cowpens.

The continentals and Lee's legion are top notch, as probably are Washingtons cavalry. Militia are militia but not hopeless.

The crown forces you probably know well…:-)

Cheers

Thanks – very useful (I have the GCH Osprey, which has a plan for Weitzel's Mills, but given the state of the rest of that particular book……).

No problem. I hope it gives you an interesting game!
