Got my hands on some fantastic books on uniforms illustrated by the couple Lilian & Fred Funcken. Excellent hand painted uniform plates. Have posted a handful on my blog. blackpowdergames.blogspot.se |

Indeed! Now if only someone would re-print the version in English in hardback. Always my favorite Napoleonic uniform books. |

They are nice. I have been thinking about trying to sell my French language versions at Historicon this year. I just never got Into painting Napoleonics so they just sit collecting dust. I did not find it too hard to figure out what colors and unit type was being described in the French version at all. Having the internet allows me to look up a word that I can't work out pretty easily. Matthew |

Mine are all in French – bought before English version became available. Never been a problem. |

Likewise, mine daye back to circa 1970 in French; some very minimal self education was all that was needed to understand them. And yes, I love many of the plates, especially the 2 page spread of French Hussars charging! |

Can't go wrong, lucky I've got the english version although soft colour, as a great basic guide perfect, I've also got luckily their "Lace Wars' in hard back and the WW1 set great part of any uniform library, my wish the Knights and Renaissance book in english. |

These were my first Napoleonic uniform books I ever saw, back in the late 80's, and the first in my library, circa 1990. Still have them! |

My Funcken, just the one, is in German but is is a compilation of all the SYW, Napoleonic and Franco Prussian books in one 500 page volume printed in 2000. They were being sold in remainder book shops in Germany for 10 euros a few years ago. BARGAIN!! |

I have had my Funcken books for over 35 years and still use them today as first reference. Love the illustrations even if the text is sketchy. |

First and often only reference for me. Inspired me to learn to read French better. |
