I was listening to the LRDG podcast on WWPD, when did they take the editorial shift into the gutter?

The other episodes might slip a Bleeped text or ass, but I can't listen to that show with Little Elmo in the car!

Mr Elmo28 Mar 2014 4:49 p.m. PST

Yup I think it's LRDG, the others only have slips.

It was like the theme of that show before I stopped it.

"Parental caution" for sure.

indierockclimber28 Mar 2014 5:36 p.m. PST

Yes, LRDG is a bit… crass. It's what makes LRDG the LRDG! But you're right, we're having an internal dialogue about whether it needs to have a stronger warning, or become a separate download.

Feedback definitely taken aboard. Still, we're all filthy fellows so we love what they do, but realise it's not quite as polished :)

Several recent FoW threads on TMP have implied that Battlefront is tone deaf to PR concerns.

indierockclimber28 Mar 2014 5:53 p.m. PST

What does this have to do with BF? :P

John the OFM28 Mar 2014 6:08 p.m. PST

Well… grin

indierockclimber28 Mar 2014 6:10 p.m. PST

Not sure I understand your meaning :)

Mr Elmo29 Mar 2014 4:34 a.m. PST

Yes, LRDG is a bit… crass. It's what makes LRDG the LRDG!

I think one of the main hosts has a child about the same age as Little Elmo; I keep hearing about Cub Scouts. I guess the key for an Explicit tag is if you want your kids listening.

It might be nice to separate the feeds as I like, BAR and Outpost 309 but could pass on the others.

Bowman29 Mar 2014 7:27 a.m. PST

It says this:

"Be warned, LRDG is suitable for consumption by consenting adults only and is definitely NOT for the faint hearted."

on their website. Sounds like a reasonable warning to me, Elmo.

donlowry29 Mar 2014 9:09 a.m. PST

No idea what you're on about.

on their website. Sounds like a reasonable warning to me, Elmo.

If you visit the website perhaps.

I tried to find an LRDG episode in the iOS podcasts app and none were listed. That too solves the problem.

Some episodes also have the E but I think this is a new addition

indierockclimber29 Mar 2014 11:19 a.m. PST

Yes, a combination of things occurred:

We use a 3rd party system that feeds our podcasts to iTunes and to our iOS app. They recently upgraded systems, and somewhere in the shuffle our "explicit" tags got removed. Shortly thereafter, as a result, iTunes removed the WWPD podcasts for being distributed without Explicit tags. That's being remedied soon.

As for the LRDG, we are figuring out exactly what to do, but in either case it won't be distributed in the same manner as the others. We've always striven to be inclusive, and having an inappropriate audience stumble upon that podcast would be unacceptable, so we'll be fixing it shortly.

I've only just gotten back to the states, and am only now returning to my post at WWPD so this is one of the things I'll be tackling in the coming days :)

Thanks and welcome back.

You could just, I dunno, swear less?

CPBelt29 Mar 2014 5:44 p.m. PST

You could just, I dunno, swear less?

How dare you speak about having manners and respect! This is the 21st century! Manners and respect are so last century. wink

To be fair, Internet amateurs have not had the broadcasting education of the professional DJ.

jgibbons29 Mar 2014 5:53 p.m. PST

I have to say the LRDG didn't work for me…. I am not sure how far i got into it but i don't recall that gaming had really come up by the time I gave up on it…

I may try it again but that was my first impression….

jdginaz29 Mar 2014 7:14 p.m. PST

"To be fair, Internet amateurs have not had the broadcasting education of the professional DJ."

How much education does one need to know not to be so crass
on a gaming podcast?

I think some people need to grow a thicker skin…

Ryan Gebhart30 Mar 2014 9:22 a.m. PST

I don't mind but can see why others might. They just need a simple warning label on their page IMO.

CPBelt30 Mar 2014 10:29 a.m. PST

I think some people need to grow a thicker skin…

No, some people need to grow up and learn to have some manners and get their head out of their selfish, self-centered, narcissistic butts.

Surferdude30 Mar 2014 11:47 a.m. PST

Hee hee see what I mean…

But on a serious note the guys put plenty of warnings on their site, the LRDG cast was moved to 'prime' so you have to have contributed to hear it and in the end it was no worse than sitting around the table rolling some dice and having a beer… If people are offended then they shouldn't listen.

The Long Range Desert Group swears too much?
