I am sure this question has been asked before but as usual, I am short of the time to plunge through the archives of TMP. Although the late 18th century is not as "lacey", in my mind I lump lace wars with the approximate period of Horse and Musket and don't get too hung up on the difference between a dog-lock flintlock vs. early cap and ball. With all of this said, I am reminded of the South Essex and some of Cornwell's fictitious or semi-ficticious French units. Which leads me to the question, is it still imagiNation gaming if one builds and deploys fictitious units without building the whole national structure? |

Funny that you posed this question just now as I was thinking about another fictitious regiment to paint. I already have two, a third planned and another possibility. To answer your question I say yes. The Loamshire Volunteers link Real Compania Irlandesa link I have the South Essex on order (Front Rank Reinforcement pack figures) at the moment. I was also thinking of a battalion in British uniforms with a mustard-yellow coloured tunic. Not sure why – just thought they would look cool. |

is it still imagiNation gaming if one builds and deploys fictitious units without building the whole national structure? Of course it is! |

What else would one call it? Fictional Imaginations? |

Of course it is. We did ours in 54mm. My country of Penury fielded a Brigade of Guards, each with its own nickname. My favorite was the 3rd Guards known as "The Old Comestibles". Seems they got the name from a winter spent trapped in the high pass of the Donner Range. Let your imagination run wild and you will have a lot of fun. |

Excellent! Pyrate Captain, Phil Hall: hoping for images! |

Although my 4th Austro-Turkish War forces are factual, I've made a selection from forces present in actual OBs to come up with a fictional OB of my own. The battles they will be involved in will have the factual flavour, but will be entirely fictional. Also I have no doubt that an entirely made up Freikorps commanded by myself will creep in at some stage, including an experimental artillery element involving amusettes and 3 or 4 lb geschwindstücke using mules for transport. Not true, but all entirely plausible! The historic context gives your imagination more material to play with and spark off, and the only danger is that some daft soul takes it as true and sticks it up in Wikipedia! |

@ Freiherr Graham: looking eagerly forward to discover your achievements! |

Thank you. So do I! The trouble is I am a busy man, and my painting is really SLOW. So I have to admit that I haven't actually completed a single unit yet! A battalion of Modena (Villeneuve) are almost ready, and some pandours, and my Bavarian contingent of Herzog Clemenz and Minucci are undercoated. And the weight of unpainted metal is mounting up! |

If you imagine it it's an Imaginnation! Mine is mostly composed of units from my historical armies, just in different combinations. |
