Viola! The reason I have been pestering these boards! The first element of my generic French brigade for 1813! The first battalion of the fictious 100th regiment de ligne. Ergo the eagle!
Pardon the crappy picture quality but I am using my new smart phone camera and I have yet to master it!
Miniatures are plastic and metal perry's, painted to wargaming quality, with hand painted flag. I have another battalion and a half in the works before I have to get new minis.
But see sirs! I pester you for a good cause! With Respect KTravlos |

They look fine to me. Painted, based, identifiable as a French infantry battalion, I don't see a problem. |

They look fine to me as well> BTW, the 100e Regiment de Ligne was hardly fictional: Descended from the old Royalist Rheinbach Regt, raised in 1758. Established as the 100th Demi-Brigade 1796, 100e Ligne in 1803. Fought at Ulm, Durenstein, Austerlitz, Jena, Eylau and Friedland. In Spain 1808-1814 where it saw action at Burgos and Saragossa. Fought at Ligny and Waterloo in 1815. Sounds like a rather illustrious regiment, actually. (per Emir Bukhari, "French Napoleonic Line Infantry, 1796 -1815, Almark) |

They look pretty darn good to me. I will give anyone a big thumbs just because they have the Cojones to paint up French Napoleonics. |

I really like the partial absence of uniformity. This unit oozes character & I predict a sparkling table-top career for them. Well done. |

They look good. "Wargames standard" is good enough for me, as long as they fight well. Here is a good source for flags which might help future painting: link |

I agree with Ochoin – lots of character |

Nothing ugly about them. Excellent work! |

Merci merci! I decided I want as much as possible a campaign look for my brigade and not too much uniformity that grows boring. As for the painting, if you are going for a campaign look it is not too hard. Greatcoat troops are really easy, and even the non-greatcoat troops are fine as long as you do not worry about some things. For example while I did put pipping, I did not try to paint the Ns on the turnbacks, or worry to much about buttons (since they get lost in the crossbelts anyway). There are many inaccuracies on the modes, but since I am not going for my super quality paiting style, that is fine. I want the "feel" of a french unit that has marched-fought a lot. Nothing bad about Parade dress mind you, but not what I am looking for! |

Look good to me. You want fictional? Make them the 200th Ligne. |

I just don't see the ugly here. I think they look very good. Probably more historically accurate than many

As everyone else has said, well done they look just great en masse. I love the skirmishers A tip that totally transforms such figures and needs no skill and very little effort; try learning about shading or dip preparations. A simple skin shade (I use a GW one now discontinued), just splash it on and see the face emerge. Today's Prussians on the Road to Plancenoit. I painted dozens of grey overalls
really boring. I put two coats of a black wash (Nuln Oil from GW)and every wrinkle is "highlighted" (well the reverse actually) with no need for anything further. I had planned two further highlights in lighter greys! Job's done! |

Ugly? No way!. These are pretty terrific figures, and way above mine own 'wargames standard' paint jobs. Keep these in front of you as you paint more 'pour encourager les autres, n'est pas?' Kevin |

deadhead See I cannot make it work. Essentially what I do is paint the base colors, than go over the whole miniature with AgrathGWwhatever earthshade, and then highlight. It did not work that well here. It works well with my SAGA stuff. Though I put more work on my saga stuff.

Those Frenchies are cheating
they've got armour and big pointy sticks |
deadhead | 26 Mar 2014 2:32 a.m. PST |
KTravlos, I do not agree with you. I think your armoured chaps have far better faces. The faces on the front two from the left and the inside of the shield behind them show up as more 3D. Water in down and then use a couple of coats. I sinks into the eyes, the mouth and hollow of the cheeks. I swear by Agrax Earthshade but not for faces. I have a small bottle of Ogryn Flesh GW wash
.no longer made by GW and it is very low now. |
