By request, I will be doing it in 28mm in a week.
I know nothing about the battle. grin

I am thinking that, since there were only 400-700 men involved, that perhaps my Sword and the Flame vanilla right out of the box will work.

I dont have a scenario for that – but did find some data – one web site I found that listed some of the key participants (no references to sc militia numbers) at the bottom of the page was

link

Some timing was listed on link

Greg Novaks – "Rise and Fight Again" page 73
Tarleton
17th Dragoons 40
British Legion Light Dragoons 130
British Legion MTD INF 120
1 3 lb gun (according to most accounts – it did not get there until much later – forces were moving too fast to keep up with)

Reserves were made up from stranglers of his quick movements

Buford
3rd VA made up of the 7th VA Regiment and 2 companies of the 2nd VA 380
1st and 3rd Light Dragoons 40
Detachment of Cont Art 30
2 6 lb guns
Another source indicated he had 26 wagons and that the guns and the wagons were in the front of his march – Tarleton to his rear – I assumed this to be part of the contingent that was also escoting Gov Rutledge.

Hope it helps – good luck

I believe that Too Fat Lardies have a Waxhaws scenario in their AWI book.

Thanks, that gives me something to work on.
And giving the Continentals a +1 First Fire might encourage their fatal mistake. I never want to FORCE historical mistakes, but encouraging them is quite another matter. grin
I have figures and wagons to cover everything, which is always a nice feeling when presented with an unknown scenario.

Remember the water wings for William Washington.

Reserves were made up from stranglers

Oh, that Tarleton, emptying the jails as he advanced.

Everybody knows that the Loyalists were secret practitioners of Thuggee and worshiped Kali.
It's all in "The Patriot" if you know what to look for.

Waxhaws-on, Waxhaws-off,

Either way, I expect command of the 17th LTDR. Proper British regulars only, sir.

You can keep Bloody Ban. And I think I have an OOB we can use…

Here is a book on the battle that I worked on a few years ago. It includes a scale map of the battle and a orbat.

You can add extra dimension to the game by giving the American player the option to deploy his cannon rather than send them down the road. But the British gain extra victory points if the guns are captured.

…..and duly ordered.

3rd VA made up of the 7th VA Regiment and 2 companies of the 2nd VA 380

This is a classic description of Buford's command, but it may not be accurate. In 1780 the Virginia continentals consisted of Woodford's brigade of 3 continental regiments (themselves the consolidated remnants of other units), plus 3 "regiments of detachments". Buford's regiment was one of the latter. One source suggests Buford's command was raised from troops returning from furlough plus recruits.

Among the officers present were at least a couple of company commanders from the 2nd Continentals. Whether this means the 2 companies of the 2nd were from Woodford's command or whether they were excess officers sent back to Virginia in a consolidation I do not know.
